The highly anticipated TV anime adaptation of Suisei’s popular romantic fantasy series, “There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, So I Tried Confessing to Her” (Yūsha Party ni Kawaii Ko ga Ita no de, Kokuhaku Shite Mita), is officially set to premiere in 2026. A new teaser video has been released, confirming the release window and offering a first look at the animated world. Crunchyroll has also announced that it will stream the series worldwide, excluding Asia but including India.

A Look at the Teaser and Premiere Details

The recently unveiled teaser video provides a glimpse into the comedic and heartwarming dynamic between the demon Yōki and the priestess Cecilia. While specific plot points from the teaser were not detailed in the search results, the video’s release marks a significant step towards the anime’s debut. The 2026 premiere solidifies the timeline for fans eagerly awaiting the adaptation.

The anime’s production is handled by Studio Gekkou. Crunchyroll will be the primary platform for international viewers, ensuring broad access to the series upon its release.

The Story: An Unlikely Romance Between Foes

“There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, So I Tried Confessing to Her” centers on Yōki, a man who, after a traffic accident, finds himself reincarnated as a demon in a fantasy world. Unlike typical protagonists, Yōki doesn’t become a hero or a demon lord but rather a mid-level subordinate in the Demon Lord’s castle. His peaceful, if unexciting, existence is dramatically altered when the Hero’s party invades the castle.

It’s during this confrontation that Yōki encounters Cecilia, the priestess of the Hero’s party, and instantly falls in love with her. Despite being on opposing sides, Yōki’s infatuation leads him to an audacious decision: to confess his feelings to her, even if it means betraying the Demon King. The series is set to explore the pure and often awkward romantic comedy that blossoms from this unusual premise, showcasing the unique relationship between a lovestruck demon and a kind-hearted priestess.

Key Staff and Voice Cast Bring the World to Life

The anime boasts a talented team behind its production. Yasutaka Yamamoto serves as the chief director, with Tomonori Mine directing the series. Yukie Sugawara is handling the series composition and script, ensuring the narrative remains faithful and engaging. Character designs for the animation are provided by Mina Ōsawa, adapting the original illustrations by La-na. The musical score, which will set the tone for this romantic fantasy, is composed by Satoru Kōsaki and MONACA. Ryō Aizawa of Starry Cube is credited as the producer.

The main cast members lending their voices to the endearing characters include Kōhei Amasaki as the protagonist Yōki, and Kana Hanazawa as the charming priestess Cecilia. Both voice actors have shared their excitement for the project, with Amasaki highlighting Yōki’s “middle schooler fantasy edge” despite his age, and Hanazawa describing Cecilia as a kind and nurturing character with a heartwarming journey.

From Web Novel to Anime Adaptation

The story of “There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, So I Tried Confessing to Her” originated as a web novel written by Suisei, which began serialization on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform in July 2013. It later saw a light novel release with illustrations by La-na, comprising three volumes published between October 2014 and August 2015. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Kairi, started in January 2021 and has since compiled into twelve volumes as of July 2025, serving as the primary basis for the anime. The anime adaptation was officially announced on July 4, 2025, with a teaser visual preceding the recent video.
