The highly anticipated new anime adaptation of Tsukasa Hojo’s classic manga, Cat’s Eye, is set to premiere on September 26, with its official trailer now released and confirming its exclusive streaming home on Disney+’s Star brand. The revival marks the first new anime series for the phantom thief trio in approximately 40 years, promising a blend of thrilling action and romance for both long-time fans and new audiences.

Premiere Schedule and Global Streaming Details

The new Cat’s Eye anime will roll out its episodes in two distinct parts. The initial six episodes (1-6) will be available weekly on Disney+ from September 26 through October 31. Following a brief hiatus, the remaining six episodes (7-12) will resume weekly streaming from December 26, 2025, until January 30, 2026. This staggered release schedule offers viewers an extended period to enjoy the Kisugi sisters’ exploits. The series will be exclusively streamed worldwide on Disney+’s Star brand.

New Trailer Highlights and Musical Talent

The recently released official trailer provides a glimpse into the anime’s animation style and introduces the new opening theme, “MAGIC,” performed by the popular singer Ado. In a significant announcement for fans, Ado will also cover Anri’s iconic original 1983 “CAT’S EYE” theme song, which will serve as the anime’s ending theme. “MAGIC” was written, composed, and arranged by Vocaloid producer Tsumiki, marking a new collaboration with Ado and delivering a “heart-pounding retro-pop number.”

Cast and Production Team Behind the Heists

The new Cat’s Eye anime boasts a talented voice cast bringing the beloved characters to life. Mikako Komatsu stars as Hitomi Kisugi, the second of the three sisters, with Ami Koshimizu voicing the eldest sister Rui Kisugi, and Yumiri Hanamori as the youngest, Ai Kisugi. Takuya Sato joins the cast as Detective Toshio Utsumi, Hitomi’s unsuspecting boyfriend. Additionally, Katsuyuki Konishi is cast as Masato Kamiya, and Yoko Hikasa as Mitsuko Asatani.

LIDEN FILMS, known for their dynamic animation work, is producing the series. The production staff includes Yoshifumi Sueda (known for High School DxD Hero) as director, Hayashi Mori (Sand Land: The Series) handling series composition, and Yosuke Yabumoto (The Legendary Hero is Dead!) as character designer and chief animation director. The music for the series is composed by Yuki Hayashi, celebrated for his work on Haikyuu!! and My Hero Academia.

The Legacy of Cat’s Eye and New Character Introduction

Tsukasa Hojo’s original Cat’s Eye manga, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1981 to 1985, follows the Kisugi sisters—Hitomi, Rui, and Ai—who operate a café by day and transform into a notorious art thief trio by night. Their daring heists are driven by a mission to recover pieces from their missing father’s art collection. The manga previously inspired two TV anime seasons in the 1980s, running from 1983 to 1985.

A notable aspect of this new adaptation is the first-ever anime appearance of Masato Kamiya, also known as “Nezumi,” a character from the original manga who served as the basis for Ryo Saeba in Hojo’s subsequent hit series, City Hunter. Original author Tsukasa Hojo expressed his gratitude to fans for enabling the new anime and shared his excitement for Kamiya’s role, hoping City Hunter fans will enjoy seeing the origin of Ryo. This new anime aims to stay closer to the original manga’s storyline.
