The highly anticipated anime adaptation of “A Wild Last Boss Appeared!” (Yasei no Last Boss ga Arawareta!) is officially scheduled to premiere on October 4, 2025, bringing the popular light novel series to screens. Accompanying the anime’s debut is a new video game adaptation, A Wild Last Boss Appeared! ~Black-Winged Survivor~, which will launch with full English language support across multiple platforms.

The anime series will begin its broadcast on Tokyo MX on October 4 at 10:30 p.m. JST, with subsequent airings on BS Asahi and Kansai TV on October 5. Meanwhile, fans can dive into the game, A Wild Last Boss Appeared! ~Black-Winged Survivor~, starting October 5, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4, and October 6, 2025, for Steam.

Anime Adaptation Details: Staff, Cast, and Themes

The “A Wild Last Boss Appeared!” anime series is produced by Wao World, with WOWMAX overseeing general production. Yūya Horiuchi is directing the series, with Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handling the series scripts. Maiko Ebisawa is responsible for character designs, and Technoboys Pulcraft Green-Fund is composing the music, setting the stage for the fantasy adventure.

The main cast features Ami Koshimizu as the formidable protagonist Lufas Maphaahl, and Yuri Usui as Dina. Additional cast members include Yukina Shutō as Aries, Hisako Tōjō as Libra, Naoya Uchida as Aigokeros, Mika Kanai as Parthenos, and Kokoro Omori as Virgo.

For the musical themes, the anime will feature “Level wo Agete Butsuri de Naguru” by Kishida Kyodan & The Akeboshi Rockets as its opening song, and “Migi Hidari” by Yuka Nagase as the ending theme.

The Story of the Black-Winged Tyrant’s Return

“A Wild Last Boss Appeared!” is based on the light novel series written by Firehead and illustrated by YahaKo, which was initially serialized on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō from 2015 to 2019. Earth Star Entertainment later published the series under their Earth Star Novel imprint, concluding with nine volumes. J-Novel Club has licensed the digital release of the light novels in North America. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Tsubasa Hazuki, has also been ongoing since 2017 and is published in English by J-Novel Club.

The narrative centers on a man who wakes up in the body of his massively multiplayer online (MMO) game character, Ruphas Mafahl, also known as the “Black-Winged Tyrant.” This transpires 200 years after her decisive defeat in a player-orchestrated in-game event. Now, finding himself in the real version of the game world, he must navigate the consequences of Lufas’s infamous past, reunite with her loyal subordinates—the Twelve Heavenly Stars—and confront the monsters that were unleashed following her “death.” The protagonist, now as Lufas, embarks on a journey to uncover truths, seek comrades, and address the turmoil that has befallen the world of Exgate Online in her absence.

Video Game Adaptation: “Black-Winged Survivor”

The accompanying action game, A Wild Last Boss Appeared! ~Black-Winged Survivor~ (Yasei no Last Boss ga Arawareta! ~Kuro Tsubasa no Survivor~), is developed by Sunsoft. The game will be available in multiple languages, including Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese, making it accessible to a wide international audience. This cross-media release allows fans to experience the world of Lufas Mafahl both through the animated series and an interactive gaming experience.
