Takeshi Konomi’s The New Prince of Tennis manga will be taking a one-issue break, skipping the upcoming October issue of Shueisha’s Jump SQ. magazine. The series is slated to resume serialization in the magazine’s November issue on October 3.

Details of the Break and Return

The hiatus for The New Prince of Tennis was announced on Thursday via the official X (formerly Twitter) account for Shueisha’s Jump SQ. magazine. Fans will not find a new chapter in the October issue, which is typically released around September 4. However, the good news for enthusiasts is that the break is short-lived, with the manga confirmed to return in the subsequent November issue, scheduled for release on October 3.

The Series Approaches Its Climax

This temporary pause comes as Takeshi Konomi has previously stated his intention to conclude The New Prince of Tennis manga within a year. This announcement, made on July 1, 2025, coincided with the 26th anniversary of the original The Prince of Tennis manga, highlighting the longevity of the beloved tennis franchise. The sequel manga itself has been running for 16 years, having launched in Jump SQ. magazine in 2009. The series is currently entering its final arc, leading Ryoma Echizen’s journey to a global climax.

A Legacy of Tennis Excellence

The New Prince of Tennis (also known as Shin Tennis no Ōji-sama) picks up after the events of the original The Prince of Tennis manga, following middle school tennis prodigy Ryoma Echizen as he joins a select group of players at Japan’s top U-17 training camp. The original The Prince of Tennis manga ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2008, accumulating 42 tankōbon volumes. Its popularity led to numerous adaptations, including a 2001-2005 television anime, multiple anime feature films, video anime projects, a live-action film, a Chinese live-action television series, and a highly successful stage musical series.

The sequel, The New Prince of Tennis, has similarly inspired a 2012 television anime series, The Prince of Tennis II, as well as OVA series and the more recent The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup anime, which premiered in July 2022. A sequel series, The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup Semifinal, began airing in October 2024. The manga’s 44th compiled book volume was published on May 2, 2025.

Fans are encouraged to keep reading until the very end as Konomi brings Ryoma’s grand tennis saga to its conclusion in the coming year.
