Fans of the supernatural anime series Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun have been eagerly following the second season, which delves deeper into the mysteries surrounding Kamome Academy’s Seven Wonders. Episode 21 of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2, titled “The Curse,” premiered on August 31, 2025, offering significant developments in the ongoing narrative. This episode is a crucial installment in the second cour of Season 2, which is expected to comprise 24 episodes in total.

Episode 21: “The Curse” – A Deep Dive into the Narrative

“The Curse” continues to unravel the intricate plot, particularly focusing on the characters of Nene Yashiro, Kou Minamoto, and Teru Minamoto, as they navigate perilous situations and uncover unsettling truths. The episode builds directly on the events of Episode 20, “The Red House,” where Kou and Nene encountered a young boy resembling Hanako, later revealed to be a youthful Tsukasa, within a cursed house. Nene was subsequently taken by a mysterious entity, and Kou found himself battling illusions while Tsukasa hinted at the house’s wish-granting, sacrifice-demanding nature, revealing his own past sacrifice for Amane.

In Episode 21, the narrative branches to follow Teru and Akane as they seek clues at a shrine connected to the Minamoto family, hoping to find a way to cross the border between worlds. Their search leads them to an encounter with the shrine’s chief priest, Nagisa Kunishige, who greets them with an insolent attitude, creating a tense atmosphere. Simultaneously, Nene is depicted scrambling to escape an eerily familiar cave, having been trapped in a sacrificial cave with a boy named Katakuri in the previous episode. She narrowly escapes through a water outlet and reunites with Kou in the red house. The episode further deepens the mystery around Tsukasa and the red house, while also focusing on Teru, Akane, and Nene’s individual struggles.

Release and Streaming Information

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2 officially premiered its first episode on January 12, 2025, on Crunchyroll, following its broadcast on TBS-affiliated stations in Japan. The season is structured into two cours, with the second cour beginning on July 6, 2025.

Episode 21, “The Curse,” aired in Japan on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. JST across 28 TBS-affiliated stations. For international viewers, the English-subtitled version was made available on the same day at varying times due to time zone differences. Streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ offer the series to a global audience. New episodes of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2 are released on Sundays, with English subtitles typically available first, followed by same-day English dubs.

Production and Staff

The second season of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun is directed by Yohei Fukui, with Yasuhiro Nakanishi serving as the series screenwriter and Mayuka Ito as the character designer. Lerche is the animation studio responsible for the production. The opening theme song for the first cour of Season 2 is “L’oN” by Masayoshi Ōishi, and the ending theme is “With a Wish” by Akari Kitō.

As the season progresses towards its conclusion, Episode 21 plays a vital role in advancing the overarching narrative, providing more insight into the history of Hanako and Tsukasa, and setting the stage for the climactic events to come.
