Yūna Hirasawa’s popular manga series, Luca, the Dragon Vet (also known as Ryūi no Luca or Lucíana, Dragon Veterinarian), has officially entered its final arc, as announced by Hirasawa on her X/Twitter account on Sunday. While the series is approaching its conclusion, the author noted that the “climax is still a while away,” promising readers more to come before the final farewell.

About ‘Luca, the Dragon Vet’

Luca, the Dragon Vet is a “magical medical drama full of adventure and intrigue” that began serialization in Kodansha’s Morning two with medical supervision from Hoko Tsuda in September 2022. The manga has garnered a dedicated following for its unique premise and engaging storytelling.

The World of Dragon Veterinarians

The story is set in a world where humans and dragons coexist, with dragons serving various roles in travel, work, and even war. The protagonist, Luca, was raised with the dream of becoming a dragon vet, inspired by her late father, who was a military dragon doctor. This aspiration drives her to enroll in Cognir’s advanced dragonology school, where she faces rigorous admission rules and challenging classes.

Luca’s Journey and Challenges

Luca’s journey to become a dragon veterinarian is central to the narrative. She is determined to treat suffering dragons, often collaborating and sometimes clashing with her classmates, Zilla and Chloé. The series explores the complexities of dragon medicine and the various ailments that affect these fantastical creatures. Furthermore, Luca grapples with a serious suspicion surrounding her admired father, adding a layer of mystery and personal challenge to her quest.

International Release and Reception

Kodansha has been publishing the manga’s compiled book volumes, with the fifth volume released on May 22. For English-speaking audiences, Kodansha USA Publishing has licensed Luca, the Dragon Vet and plans to release the series in print starting in Fall 2026. The manga is recommended for fans of series like Witch Hat Atelier and The Apothecary Diaries.

The announcement of the final arc signals that readers will soon witness the culmination of Luca’s adventures, her efforts in the field of dragon medicine, and the resolution of the mysteries surrounding her family.
