The highly anticipated second season of the Chained Soldier (also known as Mato Seihei no Slave) anime officially announced a January 2026 premiere window, accompanied by the release of its electrifying first trailer. The announcement confirms the continuation of the battle fantasy series, with the new season expected to delve into the “Leaders’ Meeting” arc from the manga.

What the First Trailer Reveals

The newly released trailer offers fans a glimpse into the escalated conflicts and introduces key figures who will play significant roles in the upcoming season. It prominently features commanders from various Demon Defense Force squads, including the 1st Squad’s Konomi Tatara, the 2nd Squad’s Mira Kamiunten, the 3rd Squad’s Belle Tsukiyono, the 5th Squad’s Yakumo Ezo, the 6th Squad’s Tenka Izumo, the 7th Squad’s Kyouka Uzen, the 8th Squad’s Varvara Pilipenko, the 9th Squad’s Fubuki Azuma, and the Supreme Commander and 10th Squad commander, Ren Yamashiro.

Action sequences highlight protagonist Yuuki Wakura alongside members of the 7th and 6th Squads. The trailer also provides new lines for Ren Yamashiro, voiced by Kana Hanazawa, who makes her debut in Season 2, and unveils the voice for Mira Kamiunten for the first time. Further cast announcements are anticipated in the coming weeks.

New Studio and Key Staff for the Upcoming Season

Season 2 of Chained Soldier will see a change in its animation production and key staff. Studio Passione, in collaboration with Hayabusa Film, will be taking over animation duties from Seven Arcs, which animated the first season.

The production will also feature a new directorial team. Masafumi Tamura (known for The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat and Wise Man’s Grandchild) is stepping in as the director, succeeding Goro Kuji. Keiya Nakano (who worked on Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue and Keijo!!!!!!!!) will be handling character designs, taking over from Hiroyuki Yoshii.

The main staff for Season 2 includes:

  • Director: Masafumi Tamura
  • Series Composition: Yasuhiro Nakanishi
  • Screenplay: Yasuhiro Nakanishi, Ohine Ezaki, Takahiro Nagase, Kyota Kano
  • Character Design: Keiya Nakano
  • Concept Composite: Jumpei Takatsu
  • Art Director: Shino Ohara
  • Color Design: Sakie Suzuki
  • Music: KOHTA YAMAMOTO
  • Sound Director: Chikako Yokota
  • Animation Production: Passione × Hayabusa Film

Returning Cast and Story Overview

Fans can look forward to the return of the main voice cast, including Yuya Hirose as Yuuki Wakura and Akari Kito as Kyoka Uzen. Other returning cast members include Yume Miyamoto as Himari Azuma, Mari Hino as Shushu Suruga, Hina Tachibana as Nei Okawamura, Maaya Uchida as Tenka Izumo, Nene Hieda as Yachiho Azuma, and Reina Ueda as Sahara Wakasa. Kana Hanazawa joins the cast as Ren Yamashiro.

Chained Soldier is based on the popular manga series written by Takahiro, known for Akame Ga Kill!, and illustrated by Yohei Takemura. The manga has been serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ online platform since January 2019, with Yen Press publishing the series in English.

The story is set in a world where mysterious gates to a dangerous dimension called “Mato” have appeared, unleashing monsters known as Shūki. Unique abilities are granted to those who partake in “peaches” growing there, but only if they are girls. The plot follows Yuuki Wakura, a high school boy who finds himself caught in a Mato gate and is saved by Kyouka Uzen, the beautiful commander of the 7th squad of the Demon Defense Force, who subsequently orders him to become her “slave” to harness his unique power.

The first season of the Chained Soldier anime premiered in Japan in January 2024 and was streamed on HIDIVE. The second season is set to stream worldwide from January 2026.
