Fans of Tachibana Higuchi’s beloved fantasy manga, Champignon Witch (also known as Champignon no Majo), can rejoice as the series released a new chapter on September 5, marking its return after a nine-month hiatus. The latest installment was published on Hakusensha’s Manga Park app, picking up the story that last saw a new release in December 2024.

The Return of Champignon Witch

The long-awaited new chapter signals the continuation of the magical fantasy series, which has captivated readers since its debut. The manga’s previous chapter, the fifth and final part of chapter 31, was released in December 2024, making the September 5 release a significant event for its dedicated fanbase. Neither Manga Park nor Higuchi had made an official announcement regarding the hiatus, making the return a pleasant surprise for many.

Delving into the World of Luna, the Champignon Witch

Champignon Witch is a unique magic fantasy manga written and illustrated by Tachibana Higuchi. The story centers on Luna, a witch who lives in a secluded house deep within the Black Forest, a place teeming with poisonous mushrooms. Luna is feared by others, earning her the moniker “Champignon Witch” because poisonous mushrooms sprout wherever she walks, talks, or touches. Despite her isolating abilities, Luna visits a nearby city to provide medicine and acquire new books. The narrative explores the complexities of her life, focusing on her first experiences with human warmth and love, despite being ostracized by many who are wary of her powers in a kingdom predominantly ruled by white witches.

Tachibana Higuchi’s Notable Career

Tachibana Higuchi is a well-regarded Japanese manga artist with a career spanning several successful titles. She is most widely recognized for her long-running shoujo manga, Gakuen Alice, which was serialized in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine from 2003 to 2013 and comprised 31 compiled volumes. Higuchi launched Champignon no Majo on Hakusensha’s Manga Park app in October 2019. Her distinctive storytelling and character development have garnered her a loyal following throughout her career.

Anticipation for the Anime Adaptation

Adding to the excitement surrounding the manga’s return, an anime television series adaptation of Champignon Witch was announced on December 13, 2024. Produced by Typhoon Graphics and Qzil.la and directed by Yōsuke Kubo, with scripts by Yūko Kakihara and character designs by Miki Matsumoto, the anime is scheduled to premiere on TBS in January 2026. This adaptation promises to bring Luna’s enchanting and poignant story to a wider audience, further solidifying the series’ place in the fantasy genre. As the manga continues its serialization, fans can look forward to both new chapters and the upcoming anime, which will surely deepen their appreciation for the world of the Champignon Witch.
