The upcoming sequel anime, Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers, has revealed its full main cast in an updated teaser video, building anticipation for its January 2026 premiere. The new series, a continuation of the classic 1988 Yoroiden Samurai Troopers (known as Ronin Warriors in the West), introduced the voice actors for the five central heroes, alongside character visuals in both their armored and casual forms.

Hiiro Ishibashi was previously confirmed as the voice of the protagonist, Gai. Now, the ensemble is complete with Junya Enoki, Ayumu Murase, Shunsuke Takeuchi, and Kentaro Kumagai joining the ranks to portray the new generation of Samurai Troopers.

New Samurai Troopers and Their Voice Actors Revealed

The updated “super teaser video” not only showcased the dynamic action expected from the series but also provided the first full look at the additional heroes and their respective voice talents. The newly announced cast members and their characters include:

  • Junya Enoki as Kaito Uesugi, who dons the Azure Armor (Sokyu). Enoki expressed his excitement, noting the blend of “Reiwa and Showa” atmospheres he expects the series to capture. Kaito, a 15-year-old raised by his grandmother, enjoys rock music and has a secret hobby.
  • Ayumu Murase as Musashi Hojo, clad in the Water Curtain Armor (Suiren). Murase shared his surprise and joy at joining such a legendary work, performing alongside senior voice actors who are fans of the original. Musashi, aged 14, grew up in the Mori Children’s Home and relies on daily fortune checks and lucky items.
  • Shunsuke Takeuchi as Yamato Hojo, who wears the Wilderness Armor (Koya).
  • Kentaro Kumagai as Shion Ishida, wielding the Flash Armor (Senko).

Hiiro Ishibashi’s character, Gai, the 14-year-old protagonist, was previously revealed to wear the Armor of Inferno. Gai is described as having unique taste preferences and is discovered to possess the qualities of a Samurai Trooper, fighting against the Youja (demon clan). The teaser visual prominently features the five heroes with the tagline, “If we don’t do it, who will?”

Plot and Production Details of the Sequel

Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers is set in contemporary Shinjuku, where five young boys must don mystical “Yoroi Gear” samurai armor to combat the returning demon emperor Arago. This premise marks a fresh chapter almost four decades after the original series first aired.

The anime is being produced by Sunrise, the same studio behind the original Yoroiden Samurai Troopers. The esteemed staff bringing this sequel to life includes:

  • Director: Yōichi Fujita, known for his work on Gintama and Mr. Osomatsu.
  • Series Composition and Script: Shōgo Mutō, who has worked on Thermae Romae live-action movie and Kamen Rider Grease.
  • Main Character Designer: Yuhei Murota, recognized for their contributions to the Love Live! franchise.
  • Villain Character Designer: Tsukasa Kotobuki.
  • Yoroi Gear Original Design Draft: Hideo Okamoto, who was also involved in the original Yoroiden Samurai Troopers armor design.
  • Animation Yoroi Gear Designer: Takuya Suzuki.
  • Music Composer: Shūji Katayama, known for his work on Overlord.

The Legacy of Ronin Warriors

The original Yoroiden Samurai Troopers anime, released in 1988, ran for 39 episodes and gained significant popularity, especially in North America under the title Ronin Warriors. The series chronicled the battle of five young men—Ryo, Toma, Shu, Shin, and Seiji—who wore mystical armor to fight the forces of the demon emperor Arago. It inspired three OVAs, a manga adaptation, and novels.

Discotek Media released the complete Yoroiden Samurai Troopers series on Blu-ray in 2021, and the original anime is currently available for streaming on platforms like Crunchyroll. The announcement of this sequel has generated considerable excitement among long-time fans and is poised to introduce the beloved franchise to a new generation. The new Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers is slated to premiere in January 2026.
