Anime fans eagerly tuned in for Gachiakuta Episode 9, titled “The City of Graffiti,” which premiered on Sunday, September 7, 2025. The latest installment saw protagonist Rudo and the Cleaners embark on a crucial mission into the vibrant yet perilous Canvas Town, leading to a significant and somber revelation.

The episode became available to stream on Crunchyroll at various international times, including 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time and 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time, with same-day English subtitles and dubs. This highly anticipated episode continues the dark fantasy narrative of Rudo’s fight for survival and vengeance in the dystopian “Pit.”

A New Expedition into Canvas Town

Episode 9 propelled the Cleaners, including Rudo, into Canvas Town, a unique settlement within the Abyss where creativity, particularly graffiti, holds vital importance. The primary objective of this expedition was to locate a specific Giver capable of providing a “spell” essential for their ongoing mission. Previous episodes had seen Rudo grappling with new powers and joining the rogue Cleaners faction after being unjustly cast into the Pit. Corvus, the boss of the Cleaners, had granted approval for this risky venture to search for a mysterious woman from No Man’s Land, further hinting at the expedition’s depth and significance.

The Tragic Discovery and a New Giver

Upon reaching Canvas Town, the Cleaners were met with a bittersweet reality. Their search for Gob, the Giver known for casting protective spells, led to a tragic discovery: Gob had passed away. However, the narrative introduced a new character, Remlin, identified as Gob’s successor and a powerful Giver in her own right. Remlin is portrayed as a capable protector of Canvas Town, a city that thrives on principles of artistic freedom and joy. This shift in leadership and the introduction of a potent new ally are expected to have considerable implications for the Cleaners’ future endeavors.

Thematic Focus: Art, Freedom, and Survival in the Pit

“The City of Graffiti” emphasized the unique cultural aspects of Canvas Town, contrasting sharply with the harsh realities of the Pit. The episode highlighted how, in this particular settlement, survival hinges on creative expression rather than brute force. This thematic exploration of artistic freedom and joy amidst a dangerous, trash-filled hellscape serves to deepen the world-building of Gachiakuta, showcasing the diverse communities and philosophies that exist within the Abyss.

The Gachiakuta anime, produced by Studio Bones, began its run in July 2025 and is slated for a 24-episode season. It continues to adapt Kei Urana’s popular manga, known for its dark themes, dynamic battles, and exploration of social divides within its dystopian setting. Fans can anticipate further developments as the series progresses, with Episode 10 scheduled for September 14, 2025.
