The official website and associated accounts for the TV anime adaptation of “Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time” (also known as Izure Saikyō no Renkinjutsu-shi? or Someday Will I Be The Greatest Alchemist?) officially announced on Thursday, September 11, 2025, that a second season is now in production. Further details, including a release date for the upcoming season, have yet to be confirmed.

The announcement was accompanied by a celebratory illustration from Tarō Sasakama, the artist behind the manga adaptation of the series.

First Season’s Success and Premise

The initial 12-episode season of Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time premiered in January 2025, capturing audiences with its blend of isekai fantasy and slice-of-life adventure. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired, offering both subtitled and English-dubbed versions to a global audience.

The anime introduces viewers to Takumi Iruma, an ordinary individual accidentally summoned to the fantasy world of Mildgard alongside a group of heroes. As compensation for the mix-up, a goddess grants him the unique and seemingly mundane skill of “alchemy.” However, this “boring” creation skill quickly proves to be extraordinarily powerful, enabling Takumi to craft everything from holy swords to flying ships. His unexpected mastery of alchemy transforms him into a wealthy merchant and makes him formidable in battle, despite his initial desire for a peaceful and quiet life.

Production Team Behind the Adaptation

The first season was brought to life by Studio Comet, with Naoyuki Kuzuya (known for Bikini Warriors) at the helm as director. Mitsutaka Hirota (Rent-A-Girlfriend, Edens Zero) handled the series composition, while Sayaka Anezaki (Tohai – Ura Rate Mahjong Tohai Roku) was responsible for character designs. The musical score was composed by Hiroshi Nakamura (Sweet Reincarnation). The cast included Shogo Sakata as Takumi Iruma, Ai Kayano as Sophia Sylpheed, Nao Toyama as Maria, Afumi Hashi as Kaede, and Sora Amamiya as Goddess Norn.

Origins: Light Novels and Manga

The anime is based on the popular light novel series written by Kogitsunemaru and illustrated by Hitogome. The novels began online serialization in 2017 and have seen 17 volumes published by AlphaPolis as of December 2024. The light novel series also notably won the Reader Award at AlphaPolis’ 10th Fantasy Shōsetsu Award in 2017.

A manga adaptation, illustrated by Tarō Sasakama, has also been running on AlphaPolis’ website since August 2018, with eight compiled volumes released. Alpha Manga publishes the manga in English.

Fans eagerly await further announcements regarding the production and release schedule of the second season, ready to continue Takumi’s heartwarming adventures as possibly the greatest alchemist in another world.
