Aniplex officially announced an original television anime project titled “Inherit the Winds” (Kaze wo Tsugumono) during the Aniplex Online Fest on Saturday. The new series is an adaptation of the popular Japanese stage play quadrilogy, the “Tachikawa Jinsuke” series, specifically drawing from its first story.
Delving into the Bakumatsu Era with the Shinsengumi
The newly revealed anime is set in Japan’s turbulent Bakumatsu era, specifically in the city of Kyoto. The narrative centers on a soldier who has lost his memories and is subsequently aided by the renowned Shinsengumi member Sōji Okita. This amnesiac protagonist is given the name “Junsuke Tachikawa,” marking the beginning of his new life among the Mibu soldiers. The series aims to portray the “fleeting youth” of these individuals amidst a rapidly changing Japan with sharp detail and a fresh perspective.
The “Tachikawa Jinsuke” stage play series, from which “Inherit the Winds” is adapted, has been performed by the theatre group Caramel Box since 1996. The original stories follow the fictional Shinsengumi soldier Jinsuke Tachikawa as he navigates the tumultuous period leading up to the Meiji Restoration. “Inherit the Winds” specifically introduces Tachikawa as he enters the war and grapples with the aftermath of the Kinmon incident.
