TOKYO, Japan – The popular dark fantasy manga series, The Kingdoms of Ruin (濱滅の王国, Hametsu no Ōkoku), is slated to begin its highly anticipated second major story arc in November. Written and illustrated by yoruhashi, the series has garnered a significant following since its serialization began in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden magazine in April 2019.

The announcement signals a new chapter for fans of the revenge-thriller, which explores a brutal conflict between magic and science. The manga, also known as Hametsu no Ōkoku, has been consistently releasing volumes, with English publications handled by Seven Seas Entertainment since April 2020.

The Saga So Far: Magic vs. Science

The Kingdoms of Ruin plunges readers into a world where humanity, once aided by witches and magic, has turned against its benefactors. A scientific revolution, dubbed the “Gear Expansion,” led the mighty Redia Empire to declare magic obsolete and initiate a ruthless extermination of all witches.

Adonis’s Vow of Vengeance

The core of the narrative revolves around Adonis, a human apprentice to the beloved Ice Witch Chloe. After witnessing Chloe’s brutal execution at the hands of the Redia Empire, Adonis vows to exact revenge upon all of humanity. This quest for vengeance fuels the dark fantasy thriller, setting the stage for epic battles between magic and advanced science. The series is known for its intense themes of revenge and its subversion of expectations.

Key Characters and World-Building

The manga has introduced various compelling characters and intricate world-building elements, showcasing the devastating consequences of the Redia Empire’s actions. Adonis’s journey brings him face-to-face with new allies and formidable foes, often exploring the moral ambiguities of his vengeful path. The series delves into complex societal structures, including slave trade and the creation of mechanical dolls, reflecting a grim reality forged by the Redia Empire.

The Anime Adaptation and International Reach

The Kingdoms of Ruin received an anime television series adaptation produced by Yokohama Animation Laboratory, which aired from October to December 2023. Directed by Keitaro Motonaga, with series composition by Takamitsu Kono, the anime further expanded the global reach of yoruhashi’s creation. Crunchyroll streamed the francophone version of the anime, allowing international audiences to follow Adonis’s brutal quest.

English Volume Releases

Seven Seas Entertainment has been steadily releasing English translated volumes of the manga. As of April 2025, thirteen tankōbon volumes have been released in Japan. The upcoming Volume 10 is scheduled for release in April 2025, with Volume 9 released in December 2024. These consistent releases ensure that English-speaking fans can keep up with Adonis’s unfolding saga.

What to Expect in the Second Part

While specific plot details for the second part remain under wraps, fans can anticipate a continuation of the intense conflict between magic and science. The series has consistently delivered a dark and thrilling narrative, often surprising readers with its twists and turns. The transition into a new major arc suggests significant developments for Adonis and the ongoing war against the Redia Empire. The narrative is expected to build upon the established themes of revenge, loss, and the struggle for survival in a world that has forsaken magic.

The manga has explored various locations and introduced elements like hidden witches and powerful magical artifacts, which are likely to play crucial roles in the unfolding narrative. With the first arc setting a grim precedent, the second part promises to intensify the stakes and deepen the exploration of its unique dark fantasy world.
