Kaiju No. 8 Season 2, currently in full swing, has unveiled a new trailer for its highly anticipated “Bungui-toge Subjugation Operation” arc. This next phase of the narrative promises to escalate the conflict, highlighting the Defense Force’s ongoing struggle against formidable kaiju threats. The new arc is set to commence with the second season’s seventh episode, which is the 19th episode overall in the series.

The “Bungui-toge Subjugation Operation” Arc Approaches

The freshly released trailer provides a glimpse into the “Bungui-toge Subjugation Operation” arc, showcasing the intensified challenges awaiting Kafka Hibino and the Japan Defense Force. This arc will delve deeper into the strategic battles required to protect humanity, following the dramatic events of the preceding “Kaiju Weapon” and “Compatible User” arcs. Fans can expect high-stakes combat and further development of key characters as they confront new and increasingly powerful foes, including an emphasis on Kaiju No. 9’s growing threat.

The upcoming “Bungui-toge Subjugation Operation” arc will begin airing on August 30, 2025.

Key Characters in the Spotlight

The trailers for Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 have highlighted significant roles for both returning and new characters. The ongoing season has already introduced the formidable First Division of the Defense Force, led by Captain Gen Narumi, considered the strongest combatant in the entire Defense Force. Protagonist Kafka Hibino and Kikoru Shinomiya joined this division, where they were immediately tested against Kaiju No. 9’s assault.

Recent promotional materials also emphasize the involvement of Reno Ichikawa and Iharu Furuhashi, two pivotal characters from Season 1. The new arc appears to position them centrally, with the trailer underscoring Reno’s growing abilities, potentially with his Kaiju No. 6 suit, and Iharu’s personal struggles with falling behind his peers. This suggests a focus on their development as the Defense Force prepares for more critical engagements.

Kaiju No. 8 Season 2: Ongoing Broadcast Details

Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 officially premiered on July 19, 2025, airing weekly on TV Tokyo in Japan and streaming globally on Crunchyroll. New episodes are made available every Saturday. The season is slated for a total of 11 episodes.

Prior to the main season’s launch, a special prequel episode titled “Hoshina’s Day Off” was released on July 5, 2025, focusing on Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina. This special episode also streamed globally on Crunchyroll and X (formerly Twitter).

Production and Animation Excellence

The anime adaptation of Naoya Matsumoto’s popular manga is produced by Production I.G., with Studio Khara supervising the intricate kaiju designs and artwork. The series is directed by Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya, with scripts handled by Ichiro Okouchi. Tetsuya Nishio is responsible for character designs and serves as chief animation director, while Mahiro Maeda is the kaiju designer. The art direction is helmed by Shinji Kimura, and the music is composed by Yuta Bandoh. This collaborative effort ensures a high-quality visual and auditory experience for viewers.

Crunchyroll is streaming the second season in multiple territories, including North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, Indian Subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. The platform offers both English-subtitled and English-dubbed versions.

As the anime continues its run, fans can anticipate the “Bungui-toge Subjugation Operation” arc to bring new depths to the story, showcasing intense battles and the evolving resolve of humanity’s last line of defense against the monstrous kaiju.
