The popular manga series #Zombie Sagashitemasu by Katsuwo is officially slated to receive a television anime adaptation in 2026. The announcement brings the creator’s unique take on a post-apocalyptic world to the screen, marking another significant anime project for the acclaimed mangaka known for their diverse works.

Katsuwo’s Unique Take on the Zombie Apocalypse

#Zombie Sagashitemasu, often translated as #I’m Looking For Zombie, presents a distinct narrative within the crowded zombie genre. The story unfolds 13 years after a catastrophic event dubbed the “Red Day,” where 90 percent of the global human population succumbed to a deadly disease and subsequently reanimated as flesh-eating zombies. Unlike typical zombie narratives, the manga introduces an intriguing concept where these zombies are portrayed as individuals who have “left for another world,” adding a layer of mystery and potential depth to the apocalypse.

In this desolate new world, the remnants of humanity strive to survive outside the major cities, harboring hopes of one day reclaiming their former territories. The plot centers on Aki and her steadfast companions, Haru and Natsuki, as they embark on a perilous journey to locate Aki’s missing father. The manga, completed with 3 volumes and 18 chapters, initially serialized in Dengeki Daioh G. Discussions among fans suggest its ending may have felt somewhat abrupt, leading to speculation about its serialization run.

From Slice-of-Life to Survival: Katsuwo’s Diverse Portfolio

Katsuwo, the creative force behind #Zombie Sagashitemasu, is renowned for a varied body of work that spans genres. Before delving into the grim yet compelling world of zombies, Katsuwo gained popularity for their endearing slice-of-life and comedic series. Their most notable previous works include Mitsuboshi Colors, which also received an anime adaptation in 2018, and Hitori Bocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu (also known as Hitoribocchi no ○○ Seikatsu).

The shift from the lighthearted, heartwarming narratives of Mitsuboshi Colors—which followed three elementary school girls forming an organization to protect their town—to the survival-oriented, dramatic themes of #Zombie Sagashitemasu showcases Katsuwo’s versatility as a storyteller. This departure has been noted by fans, expressing interest in how the mangaka would tackle such a different subject matter.

What to Expect from the Anime Adaptation

With the TV anime scheduled for release in 2026, fans can anticipate seeing Katsuwo’s distinctive art style and narrative flair brought to life on screen. The adaptation will likely explore the blend of action, adventure, comedy, drama, and mystery that defines the manga, alongside its unique supernatural and post-apocalyptic elements. The anime offers an opportunity to further flesh out the world and characters of #Zombie Sagashitemasu, potentially expanding on plot points that some readers felt were left underexplored in the manga’s original run. While specific details regarding the animation studio, staff, and voice cast are yet to be announced, the anticipation for this adaptation of Katsuwo’s distinctive work is already building.
