HOUSTON, TX – Sentai Filmworks has officially announced the upcoming release of the Azumanga Daioh Complete Collection on Blu-ray, slated for December 9, 2025. Fans of the beloved slice-of-life comedy anime can now pre-order the entire series in high definition.
This new Blu-ray collection will include all 26 episodes of the critically acclaimed anime, presented with both English and Japanese audio options, accompanied by English subtitles.
Reviving a Classic Anime Comedy
Azumanga Daioh, originally airing in 2002, is based on the four-panel manga series by Kiyohiko Azuma. The anime, produced by J.C. Staff and directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori, is renowned for its surreal humor and endearing portrayal of high school life. It follows the daily antics of a quirky group of high school girls and their equally eccentric teachers, navigating everything from bizarre school festivals to unexpected trips.
The Ensemble Cast of Azumanga Daioh
The series centers on a diverse cast of characters, including the 10-year-old child prodigy Chiyo Mihama, who struggles to fit in with her older classmates. Among her peers are the dimwitted but endearing Ayumu “Osaka” Kasuga, the energetic and competitive Tomo Takino, the mature but often frustrated Koyomi “Yomi” Mizuhara, and the tall, quiet Sakaki, who secretly yearns for the affection of cute animals. A History of Azumanga Daioh Home Video Releases
This upcoming Blu-ray marks a significant release for fans, as Azumanga Daioh has a history of home video distribution in North America. The series was first released on DVD in 2005 and 2006 by ADV Films, though these versions have long been out-of-print. Sentai Filmworks re-licensed the series in 2016 and released a DVD complete collection as part of their “Sentai Selects” line. This new Blu-ray edition offers fans an updated, high-definition presentation of the beloved comedy.
