Tokyo, Japan – September 21, 2025 – The highly anticipated second season of “Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun” (Jibaku Shōnen Hanako-kun) drew to a close today, leaving fans on the edge of their seats with a dramatic and unresolved finale. The 24th and final episode of the season aired, concluding an intense narrative arc that began with the season’s January 2025 premiere.

The anime’s return had been eagerly awaited since the “anime project restart” was announced in December 2022, following the initial 12-episode first season in January 2020. Season 2 was broadcast in two cours, with the first part concluding in March 2025 and the second part commencing on July 6, 2025.

A Season of Twists and Revelations

“Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun” Season 2 continued the supernatural adventures of Nene Yashiro, a high school girl bonded to the ghostly Hanako-kun, one of Kamome Academy’s Seven Mysteries. The season delved deeper into the mysteries surrounding the school, its apparitions, and the intricate pasts of its central characters. New episodes of the second season were consistently released on Sundays at 4:30 p.m. JST, with Crunchyroll streaming the series globally.

The production was handled by Studio Lerche, with Yōhei Fukui taking over as director for the main second season, while Yasuhiro Nakanishi returned for series scripts and Mayuka Itou for character design. The opening theme, “L’oN,” was performed by Masayoshi Ōishi, and Akari Kitō, the voice of Nene Yashiro, performed the ending theme “With a Wish” for the first part and “mo∞ent” for the second.

The March 2025 Mid-Season Climax

The first part of Season 2, which ran from January to March 2025, concluded with its 12th episode around March 30, 2025. This episode delivered an emotional journey focused on Nene’s desperate attempt to escape a supernatural painted world created by an apparition. Hanako-kun played a pivotal, complex role, demonstrating selfless love by prioritizing Nene’s life and future over his own existence, making a significant sacrifice to help her break free. The narrative highlighted Nene’s strong will to live and her dreams for a future outside the supernatural realm.

The September 2025 Season Finale’s Lingering Questions

The ultimate finale of “Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun” Season 2, Episode 24, which aired today, September 21, 2025, ended with what many viewers are describing as a “terrible cliffhanger.” Key characters such as Kou and Teru were left injured, Nene remained in the far shore, and the mischievous Tsukasa was reportedly “running wild.” This climactic ending has intensified fan speculation about the series’ future, with many hoping for a prompt announcement regarding a third season or a movie adaptation to resolve the numerous plot threads. The episode was praised for its emotional depth, strong voice acting from Megumi Ogata (Hanako-kun) and Akari Kitō (Nene Yashiro), and compelling music.

Fans eagerly await further announcements regarding the continuation of Nene and Hanako-kun’s story, as the supernatural mysteries of Kamome Academy remain far from fully resolved.
