The highly anticipated third season of the Spy×Family anime will feature the veteran Japanese rock band SPITZ performing its opening theme song, titled “Hi o Mamoru” (Protect the Light). The announcement was made on Sunday, revealing that the iconic band will contribute to the popular espionage-comedy series, which is set to premiere on October 4, 2025. This marks a significant milestone as it is SPITZ’s first original song specifically created for a television anime.

Crunchyroll will stream the new season as it airs in Japan, making it accessible to international audiences outside of Asia.

“Hi o Mamoru”: SPITZ’s First Anime Original

The choice of SPITZ for the opening theme “Hi o Mamoru” brings a fresh sound to the beloved anime, known for its unique blend of action, comedy, and heartwarming family dynamics. The band, which has been active since 1987, is celebrated for its distinctive soft rock sound and enduring popularity in Japan. Their music, often characterized by simple melodies and Masamune Kusano’s gentle vocals, has earned them a consistent presence in the Japanese music scene for decades.

The opening animation sequence for “Hi o Mamoru” was directed by Shingo Natsume, known for his work on series like Space Dandy and One-Punch Man. While previous Spy×Family openings have been praised for their vibrant visuals and catchy tunes, the collaboration with SPITZ promises a new artistic direction for the series’ third installment. Streaming services in Japan are slated to offer the song starting October 6.

Spy×Family Season 3: What to Expect

The third season of Spy×Family continues the adventures of the Forger family: master spy Loid (Twilight), his assassin wife Yor, their telepathic adopted daughter Anya, and their precognitive dog Bond. The series, produced by Wit Studio and CloverWorks, captivated audiences with its initial two seasons and a successful feature film, Spy×Family Code: White.

Key Staff and Production Details

While much of the cast and staff from previous seasons are returning, there are some notable changes behind the scenes for Season 3. Yukiko Imai, who previously served as a storyboard artist and episode director for the first two seasons, is stepping into the director role for Season 3, taking over from Kazuhiro Furuhashi and Takahiro Harada. Rino Yamazaki will be handling the series composition, and Kazuaki Shimada continues as the character designer. The music for the series will be composed by (K)NoW_NAME.

Previous Spy×Family Opening Themes

The Spy×Family anime has a history of featuring popular artists for its opening and ending themes, contributing significantly to its widespread appeal. The first season’s opening was “Mixed Nuts” by Official Hige Dandism, while the second season featured “SOUVENIR” by BUMP OF CHICKEN and “Kura Kura” by Ado. These songs, combined with distinct animation sequences, have become memorable parts of the series’ identity.

The upcoming third season is set to air on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido, and TV Kyushu, with a later broadcast on BS TV Tokyo. Fans can anticipate a new visual and auditory experience as the Forger family navigates their secret lives and missions.
