Key Voice Cast Revealed for Kindergarten Wars Anime
Fans can look forward to hearing prominent voice actors bring the eccentric characters of Kindergarten Wars to life. Atsumi Tanezaki, known for her role as Anya Forger in SPY x FAMILY, will voice the lead character, Rita. Joining her is Kentaro Kumagai, who will portray Doug. Kumagai is recognized for his work as Laios in Delicious in Dungeon. These casting choices have been met with enthusiasm, promising strong performances for the series’ unique blend of action and romantic comedy.
What is Kindergarten Wars About?
Kindergarten Wars is an action-packed romantic comedy set in the “world’s safest kindergarten,” known as Kindergarten Noir. This elite institution caters to the children of politicians, celebrities, and other VIPs, requiring a formidable security detail to protect them from constant threats of assassination and kidnapping.
The kindergarten employs former criminals as teachers, offering them reduced sentences in exchange for their bodyguard services. The story centers on Rita, also known as Convict #999, a legendary former assassin now working as a teacher. While her combat skills are unparalleled, Rita has a particular weakness: she is constantly on the lookout for a handsome boyfriend. This desire often leads to hilarious and chaotic situations as she juggles her duties protecting the children with her quest for romance.
The Manga’s Journey and Success
Written and illustrated by You Chiba, Kindergarten Wars began its serialization on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ app and website in September 2022. Initially part of Jump+’s Rookies program as an “independent manga,” its popularity led Shueisha to announce it as a full-fledged series in March 2023.
The series has garnered significant recognition, including ranking third in the web manga category at the 2023 Next Manga Awards. It also consistently placed high in AnimeJapan’s “Most Wanted Anime Adaptation” polls, ranking ninth in 2024 and fifth in 2025, underscoring strong fan demand for an anime. As of August 2025, the manga has collected 15 tankōbon volumes and boasts over 1.7 million copies in circulation. Shueisha’s Manga Plus platform publishes the series digitally in English, and Yen Press handles the physical English releases.
A spinoff manga titled Yōchien Wars -LUKE- (Kindergarten WARS -LUKE-) focusing on the character Luke was also launched in November 2024 and concluded in July 2025.
