The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s manga, Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai), is officially slated for an April 2026 premiere, running for two consecutive cours. The news, along with a reveal of additional key staff members and an English-subtitled teaser trailer, was announced during the Crunchyroll Showcase panel at New York Comic Con 2025. Crunchyroll has confirmed it will stream the series globally.

Premiere Details and Extended Run

Fans can mark their calendars for April 2026, as Daemons of the Shadow Realm is set to debut. The anime will air for two consecutive cours, ensuring a substantial initial run for the supernatural adventure. This extended format suggests a faithful adaptation of Arakawa’s intricate storytelling, known for her acclaimed work Fullmetal Alchemist. The premiere announcement was a highlight of Crunchyroll’s panel at New York Comic Con 2025, where a new teaser promotional video was also unveiled, giving viewers a glimpse into the anime’s visual style and action sequences.

Unveiling the Production Team at Studio Bones

The anime is being produced by Bones Film, a studio celebrated for its high-quality animation. Leading the charge as director is Masahiro Ando, renowned for his work on Sword of the Stranger. Noboru Takagi, known for his series composition on Golden Kamuy, is handling the scripts, while Nobuhiro Arai (Bungo Stray Dogs, Hitsugi no Chaika) is responsible for character designs. The evocative musical score will be composed by Kenichiro Suehiro, recognized for his contributions to Fire Force and Goblin Slayer.

Newly Revealed Staff Members

The New York Comic Con presentation further expanded the list of talented individuals working on the project:

  • Daemon Design: Kōji Sugiura and Yoshiyuki Itō
  • Color Setting: Yukari Goto
  • Art Director: Tatsurō Ōnishi
  • Art Setting: Shūhei Tada and Nariyuki Ogi
  • CG Director: Mizuki Sasaki
  • Composite Director: Eiei Chō
  • Editor: Ayumu Takahashi
  • Sound Director: Kazuhiro Wakabayashi
  • Sound Effects: Kōsuke Ogata

This comprehensive staff list underscores the significant investment in bringing Arakawa’s detailed world to life, with a team boasting extensive experience across various successful anime productions.

The Voices Behind the Daemons

The main voice cast, previously announced, includes a roster of prominent talent:

  • Yuru: Kensho Ono (known for Toma in Hell’s Paradise)
  • Asa: Yume Miyamoto (known for Rouge in Metallic Rouge)
  • Dera: Yuichi Nakamura (known for Gojo in JUJUTSU KAISEN)
  • Gabby (Gabu-chan): Misaki Kuno (known for Xiaolan in The Apothecary Diaries)

These seasoned voice actors are expected to bring depth and nuance to the central characters of the series.

A Glimpse into the Shadow Realm

The new trailer provides a dynamic preview of the anime’s world, showcasing the unique blend of action and mystery that defines Arakawa’s work. It highlights the protagonist Yuru, a boy from a secluded mountain village, whose peaceful life is shattered as he’s drawn into a conflict tied to his destiny and that of his twin sister, Asa.

The story of Daemons of the Shadow Realm is set in a world where certain humans command powerful supernatural entities known as Daemons. Twins Yuru and Asa are prophesied “children who sunder day and night,” destined to rule over these powerful beings. Separated early in life and unaware of their true heritage, they must embark on a journey to reunite, claim their birthright, and ultimately save the world from destruction.

Hiromu Arakawa’s manga has been serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine since December 2021, and has already garnered significant attention, with over 4 million copies in circulation. The anime adaptation is being produced by the collaborative efforts of Square Enix, Aniplex, and Studio Bones, a “powerhouse trio” also responsible for the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime. This strong production team and compelling source material have generated considerable anticipation among anime fans for its debut on Crunchyroll next year.
