Bandai Namco Filmworks has officially unveiled the title for the fifth film in the Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 series as “Hakunetsu no Ginga Taisen” (The Incandescent Galactic War), with its theatrical premiere slated for February 20. The announcement came via a special teaser trailer, also revealing a new visual drawn by manga creator Kia Asamiya.
A New Chapter in the Rebel 3199 Saga
The Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 project is an ambitious remake of the classic 1980 film Be Forever Yamato and incorporates elements from the Space Battleship Yamato III television series. The entire saga is planned to unfold across seven films, with the fifth installment now officially titled and dated. This series continues the beloved Space Battleship Yamato narrative, following the crew’s adventures in a desperate fight for Earth’s future.
Previous Installments and Release Schedule
The Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 series commenced its theatrical run in July 2024. The first film, titled “Kuro no Shinryaku” (Dark Invasion), premiered on July 19, 2024, followed by the second film, “Sekijitsu no Shutsugeki” (The Assault of the Burning Sun), which premiered in November 2024. The third film, “Gunjō no Asteroid” (Ultramarine Asteroid), opened on April 11, and the fourth installment, “Mizuiro no Sasha” (The Aqua Sasha), began its theatrical run on October 10. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime under the title Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199.

The Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 series is produced by Studio Mother. Naomichi Yamato is directing the new anime, with Harutoshi Fukui serving as supervising director, head writer, and scriptwriter. Hideki Oka is also credited as a co-writer on the script, and Nobuteru Yūki returns as the character designer. Mechanical designs are handled by Junichirō Tamamori, Mika Akitaka, and Yasushi Ishizu. Akira Miyagawa is composing the music, continuing a legacy as his late father, Hiroshi Miyagawa, composed music for the original Space Battleship Yamato.
The teaser visual for “Hakunetsu no Ginga Taisen” was created by Kia Asamiya, known for his work on Silent Möbius and his contributions to the Star Blazers Chronicle 2202 film.
