The Story of “Whoever Steals This Book”

The film adapts Nowaki Fukamidori’s novel, first published in October 2020 by Kadokawa Shoten. A manga adaptation by Kakeru Sora was serialized from December 2021 to March 2023. Yen Press licenses the manga in English.

The narrative centers on Mifuyu, a high school student who, despite her family’s deep connection to books and the famous Mikura Hall library, harbors a dislike for literature. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when a theft at Mikura Hall triggers an ancient curse. Mifuyu is then forced to retrieve the stolen books by entering the very stories she despises, embarking on a magical quest with the help of the enigmatic Mashiro. The film promises a fantasy mystery full of adventure as Mifuyu delves into cursed narratives to save her town.

The “Whoever Steals This Book” anime film is slated to hit Japanese theaters on December 26, 2025.
