Fans of Shōichi Taguchi’s beloved “Futari Escape” (Our Escape) manga are delighted as a special new chapter has been released in this year’s issue of Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime magazine. The surprise addition celebrates the recent premiere of the manga’s live-action television drama adaptation.

The new chapter was announced by Taguchi himself on X (formerly Twitter) and serves as a special treat for readers, coinciding with the debut of the live-action series, which began airing on October 4, 2025.

A Brief Return for the Popular Yuri Manga

“Futari Escape” originally captivated readers from July 2020 to December 2022, concluding its serialization in Comic Yuri Hime. The final compiled book volume, the fourth in the series, was shipped in February 2023. The manga, known for its romantic comedy and slice-of-life elements, follows the heartwarming dynamic between a stressed-out manga artist and her slacker girlfriend, Kouhai and Senpai, as they navigate the burdens of adult life by finding joy in everyday “escapes.” Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the series for English-language release, describing it as an “adorable comedy.”

The series has garnered critical acclaim, including nominations for the Next Manga Award in the print manga category in both 2021 and 2022, ranking 19th in both years.

Live-Action Drama Brings Characters to Life

The timing of the new manga chapter is directly linked to the launch of the highly anticipated live-action TV drama adaptation. The series premiered on TV Osaka and TV Aichi channels on October 4, 2025, and is also available for streaming on Lemino Premium and TVer services in Japan.

The live-action adaptation stars Nogizaka46 idol group members Renka Iwamoto as Senpai and Nao Tomisato as Kouhai, bringing the endearing duo to a new medium. Directed by Kahori Higashi, who also co-wrote the scripts with Mari Kawada, the drama aims to capture the essence of the manga’s charming narrative. This expansion into live-action further solidifies “Futari Escape’s” growing popularity and its impact on the yuri genre.
