A vibrant new clip from The Obsessed anime film, known as Toritsukareotoko in Japan, has been released, offering viewers an exciting preview of protagonist Giuseppe’s multifaceted personality through his upbeat “Giuseppe’s Theme.” The film is set to open in Japan on November 7, following its screening at the Tokyo International Film Festival which commences on October 27.

Unveiling Giuseppe’s Diverse Passions

The recently released clip serves as a dynamic introduction to Giuseppe, showcasing his tendency to become engrossed in a variety of pursuits. “Giuseppe’s Theme,” an energetic and lively song, provides the soundtrack to these rapidly shifting obsessions. Viewers can see Giuseppe engaging in activities ranging from detective work and collecting sunglasses to studying foreign languages and photography. This montage effectively captures the essence of a character constantly in search of a new focal point for his intense enthusiasm.

Masaya Sano’s Performance as Giuseppe

The catchy “Giuseppe’s Theme” is performed by Masaya Sano, a member of the male idol unit Ae! Group, who also lends his voice to the film’s titular protagonist. Sano noted that recording this song was the initial step in the production process, involving “trial and error” to perfectly capture Giuseppe’s distinctive voice—a voice meant to convey a passionate, changeable, yet endearing chaotic nature. The melody’s playful and optimistic tone subtly contrasts with the story’s underlying melancholic themes, hinting at Giuseppe’s existential search for meaning beyond his fleeting fixations.

The Narrative of The Obsessed Anime Film

The Toritsukareotoko anime film is an adaptation of Shinji Ishii’s original novel, which was first published in 2001 and later reissued in a bunko edition in 2006. The story centers on Giuseppe, a man recognized in his town for his frequent, intense, albeit short-lived, obsessions. His life takes a significant turn when he encounters Pechka, a quiet balloon seller. For the first time, Giuseppe finds himself wanting to commit to a single passion: brightening Pechka’s world and, in doing so, discovering a purpose worth sustaining. However, Pechka’s inherent sadness initially creates a barrier, prompting Giuseppe to enlist the help of his mouse friend, Cielo, and utilize his past obsessions to slowly connect with her.

Key Creative Team and Production Studio

The film is directed by Wataru Takahashi, known for his work on several Crayon Shin-chan films. The screenplay was penned by Naoyuki Miura, while Masatsugu Arakawa handled the character designs. Anime production for The Obsessed is being managed by Shin-Ei Animation, a studio with a long-standing reputation in the industry.

Upcoming Release and Festival Appearances

The Obsessed (Toritsukareotoko) is scheduled for a theatrical release across Japan on November 7, 2025. Prior to its general release, the film will be showcased at the prestigious Tokyo International Film Festival, which is set to begin on October 27. This festival appearance is expected to generate significant buzz and critical attention before the movie reaches a wider audience.
