Kimiko Ueno is in charge of series scripts, and Hiromi Taniguchi handles the character designs. Kaoru Wada returns to compose the music. New theme song performers, Wednesday Campanella and Nishina, provide the opening and ending themes, “Wo Aini” and “Panda Girl,” respectively.
The Legacy of Ranma ½ in Modern Anime
The decision by MAPPA to adapt Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma ½ manga, which ran from 1987 to 1996, follows a trend of modern reboots for classic anime properties, much like the recent Urusei Yatsura adaptation. The original Ranma ½ anime, produced by Studio Deen, ran from 1989 to 1992 and comprised 161 episodes, along with OVAs and films.
The new adaptation aims to provide a “leaner, meaner, and sharply animated” version of the original, resonating with both long-time fans and a new generation of viewers. The series explores themes of martial arts, romantic comedy, and body switching, making it a unique and enduring property in the anime landscape.
