The upcoming original anime film, L’étoile de Paris en fleur (also known as Paris ni Saku Étoile or Étoile Blossoming in Paris), directed by renowned filmmaker Gorō Taniguchi, is set to receive a manga adaptation. The manga will debut in the December issue of Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine, officially launching on November 25. Zerihan has been tapped as the artist for this new series.

Film and Manga Details Emerge

The announcement of the manga adaptation comes ahead of the film’s theatrical release, which is scheduled for March 13, 2026. The anime film is being produced by Arvo Animation and helmed by Gorō Taniguchi, celebrated for his work on iconic titles such as Code Geass and One Piece Film Red.

A Tale of Dreams in Early 20th Century Paris

L’étoile de Paris en fleur tells the poignant story of two Japanese girls, Fujiko and Chizuru, navigating the challenging landscape of early 20th-century Paris as they pursue their artistic aspirations. Fujiko dreams of becoming a painter, while Chizuru is drawn to the world of ballet. Their paths initially cross by chance in Yokohama before fate guides them to reunite in Paris, where they dedicate themselves to achieving their dreams together. The film’s evocative tagline reads, “I want to blossom, in this city.”

Key Creative Team Behind the Film

The production boasts a talented team of creators bringing the historical drama to life. Katsuya Kondō, known for his character designs in beloved Ghibli films like Kiki’s Delivery Service and Ponyo, drafted the original character designs for L’étoile de Paris en fleur. Reiko Yoshida, acclaimed for her scriptwriting on series such as Violet Evergarden, penned the screenplay for the film. Yū Yamashita adapted Kondō’s designs for animation, and Takayuki Hattori is composing the musical score. Ami Tōma, who also starred in Lonely Castle in the Mirror, lends her voice to the character of Fujiko. The film’s distribution will be handled by Shochiku.
