Yoshio Sawai’s bizarre comedy manga Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is set to receive a new stage play adaptation titled “Cho Hajike Stage Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo ~Innen! Hanage! Kessen!~” (Super Hajike Stage Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo ~Fate! Nose Hair! Showdown!~), scheduled to run in Tokyo from June 12-21, 2026. This upcoming production will be held at the Theater G Rosso and sees key creative and cast members reprising their roles from the successful 2024 stage adaptation.

Return of the “Fist of the Nose Hair” on Stage

The announcement of a new stage play follows the sold-out success of the first adaptation, “Chō Hajike Stage☆Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo,” which premiered in October 2024 at Theatre1010 in Tokyo. That initial run saw all 13 performances completely sell out, demonstrating a strong appetite for live adaptations of the unconventional series.

The 2026 play will once again feature Keita Kawajiri as both the writer and director. Kawajiri is known for his work on other stage adaptations, including Mob Psycho 100 and Cells at Work!. Shō Katō is also confirmed to reprise his role as the titular protagonist, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, bringing his portrayal of the “Fist of the Nose Hair” master back to the stage.

A Look Back at the Absurdist Franchise

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo originated as a manga series by Yoshio Sawai, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 2001 to 2006. A sequel manga, Shinsetsu Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, ran from December 2005 to July 2007. The manga quickly gained a reputation for its surreal humor and unpredictable “hajike” (bursting/cracking up) comedy style.

The story is set in the year 300X, where the villainous Maruhage Empire, led by Baldy Bald the 4th, initiates a “Hair Hunt” to strip all citizens of their hair, symbolizing freedom. Standing against this tyranny is Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, a master of the “Fist of the Nose Hair,” who, alongside his equally eccentric allies like Beauty and Don Patch, embarks on a nonsensical quest to protect hair and defeat the empire. The series’ unique blend of gag battles and absurd characters garnered a significant cult following.

Beyond the manga, the franchise received a 76-episode anime adaptation from Toei Animation, which aired from 2003 to 2005 in Japan and later gained exposure in North America through Cartoon Network’s Toonami block. Discotek Media released the anime as a standard-definition Blu-ray Disc set in January 2020.

Ticketing Information and Venue

The new stage play, “Cho Hajike Stage Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo ~Innen! Hanage! Kessen!~,” will run from June 12 to June 21, 2026, at the Theater G Rosso in Tokyo.

Ticket pre-sales are scheduled to begin on December 20, 2025, and will run until February 2, 2026. General sales for the public will commence on March 14, 2026. Further details regarding the cast and specific performance schedule are expected to be released closer to the production dates.
