Los Angeles, CA – The highly anticipated Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 officially premiered on October 29, 2025, exclusively on Disney+. The latest installment in the critically acclaimed animated anthology series marks a return to its Japanese anime origins, featuring nine new short films from various renowned Japanese animation studios, including sequels to fan-favorite shorts from the first volume.

The third volume was announced during Disney’s Content Showcase event on November 19, 2024, building excitement for its distinctive storytelling approach within the vast Star Wars universe.

A Return to Japanese Animation Excellence

Unlike Volume 2, which embraced a global array of animation studios, Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 refocuses entirely on Japanese anime studios, echoing the foundational spirit of the first volume. This shift promises to deliver a cohesive yet diverse exploration of Star Wars mythology through the unique cultural and artistic lenses of Japanese animation. The creative teams at each studio are granted significant freedom to reimagine Star Wars as they see fit, guided by Lucasfilm’s executive team.

Featured Animation Studios and Their Contributions

Volume 3 showcases the talent of several prominent Japanese studios, with a mix of returning veterans and exciting newcomers.

Returning studios from Volume 1 include:

  • Kamikaze Douga + ANIMA: Known for “The Duel,” they return with a sequel short titled “The Duel: Payback.”
  • Production I.G: Creators of “The Ninth Jedi,” which receives a sequel in “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope.”
  • Trigger: Contributes “The Smuggler.”
  • Kinema Citrus: Presents “Yuko’s Treasure” and “The Lost Ones,” a direct sequel to their Volume 1 short “The Village Bride.”

New Japanese animation studios joining the Visions family for Volume 3 include:

  • David Production: Responsible for the short “BLACK.”
  • Polygon Pictures: Brings “The Bird of Paradise” to life.
  • Project Studio Q: Features with “The Song of Four Wings.”
  • WIT Studio: Contributes “The Bounty Hunters.”

This diverse lineup ensures a wide range of animation styles and storytelling approaches, from traditional 2D techniques to modern 3D animation, all while maintaining the distinctive anime aesthetic.

Continuing Fan-Favorite Narratives

A significant highlight of Volume 3 is the inclusion of direct sequels to three highly popular shorts from the first volume: “The Duel,” “The Ninth Jedi,” and “The Village Bride.” This marks a new direction for the anthology, which previously focused on self-contained narratives.

  • “The Duel: Payback” — Expands on the mysterious Ronin character, delving deeper into his backstory and facing off against a Jedi Grand Master.
  • “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” — Continues the story of Kara and her Jedi allies as they navigate a galaxy where the Jedi are almost a myth. This short also sets up a potential future spin-off series for “The Ninth Jedi,” slated for 2026.
  • “The Lost Ones” — Serves as a direct follow-up to “The Village Bride,” bringing back the Jedi protagonist F and exploring new elements within that narrative.

These continuations offer fans deeper insights into the worlds and characters introduced in Volume 1, while still providing fresh perspectives on the Star Wars saga.

Voice Talent and Musical Scores

Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 features a notable voice cast, including stars like Steve Buscemi and George Takei, among others. The musical scores for each short are also a key component, with a lineup of acclaimed composers bringing their unique talents to the series. For instance, Keiji Inai composed the music for “The Duel: Payback,” while Yugo Kanno scored “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope.”

Availability on Disney+

All nine shorts of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 are now available to stream exclusively on Disney+. The series continues to offer a unique and celebrated expansion of the Star Wars universe, allowing diverse creators to explore its rich mythology through inventive animation.

The premiere comes after a recent price adjustment for Disney Plus subscriptions, with the ad-supported version now costing $12 per month and the ad-free version at $19 per month.
