Tokyo, Japan – Studio Trigger, renowned for its dynamic animation and distinctive style, has officially announced its latest project, “The Lenticulars,” a series of web anime shorts. The announcement confirms that Akira Amemiya, acclaimed director of “SSSS.Gridman” and “SSSS.Dynazenon,” is helming the new series, taking on roles including director, scriptwriter, and animator. The first episode, titled “Work Gloves are Gloves,” is already streaming, with new episodes slated for release every Friday.

The highly anticipated reveal occurred through a promotional video featuring Amemiya himself, with further details promised during a special broadcast on October 31, 2025. This marks a significant return for Amemiya to an original project, reinforcing Trigger’s commitment to innovative and experimental storytelling.

Akira Amemiya Takes the Helm

Akira Amemiya is a prominent figure within Studio Trigger, known for his ability to blend frenetic action with compelling narratives. His career began at GAINAX, where he contributed to iconic titles such as “Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann” and “Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt” under the direction of Hiroyuki Imaishi. Upon joining Studio Trigger, he made his directorial debut with “Inferno Cop” and later co-directed the global phenomenon “Kill la Kill.”

Amemiya further solidified his reputation by overseeing the “Gridman Universe” as the director for “SSSS.Gridman” and “SSSS.Dynazenon,” both of which received critical acclaim. “The Lenticulars” is poised to be another showcase of his unique creative vision and the studio’s signature visual style.

Studio Trigger’s Legacy of Originality

Founded in 2011 by former GAINAX employees Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Ōtsuka, Studio Trigger has consistently pushed the boundaries of anime with its original works. The studio quickly gained recognition for productions like “Kill la Kill,” “Little Witch Academia,” “Promare,” “BNA: Brand New Animal,” and “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.” Their distinct art style, often described as reminiscent of late 90s to early 2000s anime, combined with a philosophy of creative freedom and risk-taking, has cultivated a loyal global fanbase.

“The Lenticulars” adds another original IP to Trigger’s diverse portfolio, which also includes the ongoing adaptation of “Delicious in Dungeon” and the announced follow-up to “Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.” The studio’s commitment to producing engaging and visually striking content continues to make each new announcement a significant event for anime enthusiasts worldwide.

What to Expect from “The Lenticulars”

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the involvement of Akira Amemiya suggests a series that will likely feature dynamic animation, distinctive character designs, and an imaginative premise. Given Trigger’s history and Amemiya’s previous works, fans can anticipate a visually experimental and narratively engaging experience. The decision to release “The Lenticulars” as web anime shorts allows for a potentially more flexible and unconventional storytelling approach, perfectly aligning with Studio Trigger’s ethos of creative exploration. The debut episode, “Work Gloves are Gloves,” sets the stage for what promises to be an intriguing addition to the studio’s celebrated output.
