Manga artist Yuki Higashiura, known for Please Look After the Dragon, announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday that their Mamoribito (Demonsitter) manga series will conclude with its next chapter, set to be released in late November. The fantasy-comedy series, which debuted in 2021, will bring its unique narrative to an end after a four-year run.

The Journey of Mamoribito

Mamoribito began its serialization in Shonengahosha’s Young King Ours magazine in 2021. The series quickly garnered attention for its distinctive premise and art style. As of July 2024, Shonengahosha had shipped the fifth compiled book volume of the manga.

A Unique Premise: Demon Babysitting Inside a Dragon

The story of Mamoribito follows Ariaris, a somewhat clumsy ranger who unexpectedly finds herself in the role of a demon babysitter. This unusual job takes place within the colossal stomach of a massive dragon, adding a fantastical and often humorous backdrop to her daily challenges. The blend of adventure, comedy, and slice-of-life elements has been a hallmark of the series, drawing readers into its imaginative world.

Yuki Higashiura’s Other Works

Yuki Higashiura is a prolific artist with several other notable works to their name. Their recent project, Please Look After the Dragon (Dragon Yashinatte Kudasai), launched on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE platform in October 2023. Shogakukan shipped the fourth compiled book volume of Please Look After the Dragon on June 12, with Yen Press slated to release the first English compiled volume on January 20.

Higashiura’s diverse portfolio also includes titles such as Arthro Colossus, Kinniku o Kimie, Nightingale no Shigaisen, and Shii-chan, ano ne. Their ability to craft engaging stories across various genres, from action and drama to comedy and supernatural, has cemented their reputation in the manga industry.

The conclusion of Mamoribito marks the end of an imaginative journey for its fans, who eagerly await Higashiura’s future projects.
