The popular spin-off manga, “Oshiri Dandy the Young,” is officially slated to receive an anime adaptation within the ongoing “Butt Detective” (Oshiri Tantei) television anime series, with its debut set for April 2026. The announcement was made on November 4, a date recognized in Japan as “Ii Oshiri no Hi” (“Nice Butt Day”) due to a wordplay on the Japanese pronunciation of 11/4, which also coincides with the Butt Detective character’s birthday.
A special visual has been released, teasing the first appearance of the new character in the anime.
The World of Butt Detective Expands
“Oshiri Dandy the Young” delves into the adventurous past of Oshiri Tantei’s father, bringing a new dimension to the beloved franchise. The original “Butt Detective” anime, known for its unique, posterior-faced protagonist and engaging mysteries, has been a staple on NHK Educational since its television premiere in May 2018. The series has consistently aired new episodes, maintaining its popularity among young audiences.
Origins of “Oshiri Dandy the Young”
The “Oshiri Dandy the Young” manga first launched in Shueisha’s Saikyō Jump magazine in 2020. It benefits from the creative input of “Butt Detective” creator Troll, who is credited with the original story concept and supervision. Robinson Haruhara handles the original story and composition, while Akihiro Sakuchi is the artist. The manga currently has 11 compiled book volumes, with the latest shipping on November 5.
The Enduring Appeal of Butt Detective
The “Butt Detective” franchise began as a series of children’s picture books by Troll, first published in Japan in 2012 by Poplar Inc.. The books quickly gained immense popularity, leading to a sprawling multimedia empire that includes the TV anime, films, a stage musical, and a Nintendo Switch game. The titular character, a humanoid detective with a posterior for a head, solves mysteries using his keen intellect and, often, flatulence-based techniques. His sidekick, a dog named Brown, and other memorable characters like the phantom thief Kaiju have further cemented the series’ place in children’s entertainment.
The integration of “Oshiri Dandy the Young” into the “Butt Detective” TV anime is anticipated to offer fans a fresh perspective on the lore and characters, providing backstory to the eccentric detective’s lineage and expanding the vibrant, often humorous, world of the franchise.
