The Obsessed Anime Film: Story and Production Details
The Obsessed is a musical anime film adaptation of Shinji Ishii’s novel, Toritsukare Otoko (Obsessed Man), which was originally published in 2001. The story centers on Giuseppe, a man characterized by intense, short-lived obsessions, whose life takes a significant turn when he becomes fixated on a quiet balloon seller named Pechka.
The film is directed by Wataru Takahashi, known for his work on several Crayon Shin-chan films. Naoyuki Miura penned the screenplay, with Masatsugu Arakawa handling character designs. Shin-Ei Animation is responsible for the anime production, and Bandai Namco Filmworks is distributing the feature.
Key Cast and Musical Talent
The lead role of Giuseppe is voiced by Masaya Sano from the male idol unit Ae! Group, who also performs songs within the film. Moka Kamishiraishi lends her voice to the character of Pechka. Awesome City Club member atagi contributed significantly to the film’s soundtrack, producing five songs and portions of the background music, including the prominent theme “Fanfare.” Another notable song featured is “Giuseppe’s Theme,” also performed by Masaya Sano.
