The highly anticipated TV anime adaptation of Enju’s light novel series, “Kusunoki’s Garden of Gods” (Kami no Niwatsuki Kusunoki-tei), is officially set to premiere in 2026. While a specific launch month in 2026 has not yet been announced, a series of recent character trailers have begun to unveil the voice cast for the charming fantasy-slice-of-life series.
First announced in July 2025, the anime adaptation has steadily been building excitement among fans of the original light novels and its manga counterpart.
Voice Cast Brings Divine Residents to Life
Several key voice actors have been revealed to bring the unique and peculiar gods and their human caretaker to life. Shogo Sakata will star as the protagonist, Minato Kusunoki. He is the human left in charge of a house that, thanks to his extraordinary abilities, has become a serene abode attracting various deities.
Joining Sakata are:
- Shinshu Fuji as Yamagami, the influential mountain god.
- Shinnosuke Tokudome as Seri.
- Minako Kotobuki as Torika.
- Makoto Koichi as Utsugi.
- Yuichiro Umehara as Saiga Harima.
These roles have been highlighted in individual character trailers, offering glimpses into their personalities and designs.
The Story of a Unique Divine Household
“Kusunoki’s Garden of Gods” centers on Minato Kusunoki, who finds himself living in a house that was once teeming with evil spirits. After his unique abilities cleared them out, the residence instead became a magnet for a procession of distinct and often eccentric gods. The series follows Minato’s tranquil, yet often whimsical, daily life surrounded by his spiritual neighbors, as new beings wander into his garden and he occasionally ventures into other kami realms. Yen Press, which publishes the light novels in English, describes the series as a story of relaxing beneath cherry trees while spirits swarm the streets, highlighting the contrast between the peaceful divine household and the ongoing supernatural activity outside its confines.
From Web Novel to Anime Sensation
The series originated as a web novel written by Enju, first appearing on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in April 2021. It was later picked up by ASCII Media Works, with illustrations by ox, and began full light novel publication under their Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint in November 2021. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Akira Anzai, also launched on Kadokawa’s ComicWalker website in November 2021. As of July 2025, ten volumes of the light novel and four volumes of the manga have been released in Japan. The English release of the light novels by Yen Press continues, with the third volume released on November 11.
Fans eagerly await further announcements regarding the animation studio, additional staff, and a more precise release schedule for the “Kusunoki’s Garden of Gods” TV anime in 2026.
