The highly anticipated Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Compilation Film has opened at the top of the Japanese box office, dethroning Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc from its seven-week reign. The new Jujutsu Kaisen feature quickly ascended to the number one spot during its opening weekend of November 7-9, 2025.

Released on Friday, November 7, the Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Compilation Film immediately captivated audiences, selling 417,700 tickets and grossing an impressive 639,785,800 yen (approximately US$4.13 million) in its initial three-day run. The film, which opened in 338 theaters across Japan, serves as a crucial bridge between the anime’s second and third seasons. It combines a recap of the intense “Shibuya Incident” arc with the first two episodes of the upcoming “Culling Game” arc, building excitement for the third season set to premiere in January 2026. Fans in the United States can look forward to its theatrical release on December 5, 2025.
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc Drops to Fourth
After an exceptional run of seven consecutive weekends at the pinnacle of the Japanese box office, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc saw its ranking fall to fourth place in its eighth weekend. Despite the drop, the film continued to perform strongly, selling 138,500 tickets and earning 218,202,900 yen (about US$1.40 million) over the November 7-9 weekend.
The cumulative box office performance for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc remains significant, with a total of 5.43 million tickets sold and a gross of 8,318,223,600 yen (approximately US$53.74 million) in Japan. This strong showing has cemented its place among Japan’s highest-grossing films, previously noted as the 91st highest-grossing film ever released in Japan as of November 3. Globally, the film has also achieved notable success, surpassing $158 million worldwide and entering the top 20 highest-grossing films of 2025 worldwide. Furthermore, it recently surpassed Jujutsu Kaisen 0 to become the fifth-highest-grossing anime film in the U.S. box office.
Other Notable Box Office Performances
The Japanese box office also saw other shifts in its top 10. Hayao Miyazaki’s 1997 film Princess Mononoke, presented in a 4K remaster edition, climbed three positions to reach fifth place in its third weekend. Meanwhile, Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Sora no Okoku to Futari no Ko, the fourth anime feature inspired by the popular mascot brand, dropped to seventh place in its second weekend. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle continued its long theatrical run, ranking ninth in its 17th weekend and boasting a domestic total of 37.7 billion yen (US$244.3 million) in 115 days since its July 18 release. The Chinese anime film The Legend of Hei 2 also made its debut, landing in tenth position.
