The official website for the Sasaki and Peeps anime has released a brand new key visual and confirmed that its highly anticipated second season is slated for a 2026 premiere. The announcement comes after the successful run of the first season, which aired from January to March 2024.

Fans can look forward to more adventures involving the middle-aged salaryman Sasaki and his powerful, reincarnated Star Sage pet bird, Peeps. The new visual offers a glimpse into the upcoming storyline, featuring key characters including Otonari-san and the newly announced voice role of Abaddon, played by Mutsumi Tamura.

A Glimpse into the Second Season’s Visuals and Cast

The newly released key visual for Sasaki and Peeps Season 2 showcases a dynamic composition, prominently featuring Sasaki and Peeps, alongside Otonari-san and the character Abaddon. Abaddon’s appearance is particularly notable, as Mutsumi Tamura has been confirmed to join the voice cast to portray this character. Abaddon made an appearance in the final episode of the first season, hinting at a significant role in the continuing narrative.

The first season was animated by Studio Silver Link, with Mirai Minato directing, Deko Akao handling series composition, and Saori Nakashiki designing the characters. While specific staff details for the second season haven’t been fully re-confirmed with the new announcement, the continuation of the series by the same studio and core creative team is often a standard practice.

The Continuing Saga of Sasaki and Peeps

The Sasaki and Peeps anime adapts the popular light novel series written by Buncololi and illustrated by Kantoku. The story centers on Sasaki, a jaded corporate employee who decides to adopt a pet to bring some joy into his mundane life. This decision unexpectedly leads him to Peeps, a small bird who is, in fact, the reincarnation of a powerful sage from another world named Piercarlo.

Peeps grants Sasaki magical abilities and the power to traverse between modern Japan and a parallel fantasy world. What begins as an attempt by Sasaki to profit from interdimensional trading by bringing modern goods to the other world soon escalates into a complex web of magic, psychic battles, and political intrigue. Sasaki finds himself entangled with a government organization fighting “Irregulars” in his home world, while simultaneously navigating a looming war in the fantasy realm.

From Web Novel to Anime Adaptation

The Sasaki and Peeps narrative first gained popularity as a web novel, which began serialization in December 2018 on platforms like Kakuyomu and Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Its success led to its publication as a light novel series by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J imprint, with the first volume released in January 2021. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Pureji Osho, also started serialization in January 2021. Both the light novel and manga are licensed in English by Yen Press.

The first anime season, produced by Silver Link, aired from January to March 2024, consisting of 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the series outside of Asia, making it accessible to a global audience. The announcement of a second season was initially made at the AnimeJapan 2024 event in March, with a teaser trailer featuring the opening song “FLY” by MADKID.

Anticipation Builds for the 2026 Return

The confirmation of a 2026 premiere and the release of a new visual have reignited excitement among fans of the Sasaki and Peeps series. With Sasaki’s life becoming increasingly chaotic due to his involvement in two worlds, the second season is expected to delve deeper into the interwoven plotlines and further explore the challenges and comedic situations that arise from his unique circumstances. The introduction of Abaddon into the main visual and cast suggests new conflicts or alliances that will shape Sasaki and Peeps’ continued adventures.
