The highly anticipated third season of the TV anime MF Ghost is set to premiere on Sunday, January 4, 2026, on networks including TOKYO MX and Animax. The announcement was accompanied by the release of a new promotional video, which not only teased intense racing action but also unveiled the opening and ending theme songs for the upcoming season.

Fans of the high-octane racing series can mark their calendars for the early 2026 return of Kanata Katagiri as he continues his quest in the MFG races.

New Season, New Sounds: Theme Song Details

The promotional video offered a first listen to the exhilarating new theme songs that will soundtrack MF Ghost‘s third season.

  • Opening Theme: “TIMELESS POWER feat. MOTSU” performed by Yu Serizawa. Serizawa expressed her dedication to the track, calling the Season 3 song “seriously crazy” and encouraging fans to prepare for its impact.
  • Ending Theme: “Yokan no Tochu (予感の途中) Prod. ☆Taku Takahashi (m-flo)” performed by Himika Akaneya. Akaneya hopes this new ending theme will add more color to the world of MF Ghost.

The first promotional video already features a preview of the opening theme, giving viewers a taste of what’s to come.

Diving into the Drama: What to Expect in Season 3

The MF Ghost 3rd Season is expected to delve into the fierce Round 3 final of the MFG, “The Peninsula Manazuru.” The new key visual released alongside the announcement features protagonist Kanata Katagiri, poised for revenge against his rivals in the “Kami 15” group.

The previous season saw Kanata losing access to second gear and being overtaken by competitors, but this adversity is teased to rekindle his dormant fighting spirit. The promotional video suggests an intense race development, with Kanata vowing revenge and confronting the formidable drivers of the Kami 15.

Production and Legacy of MF Ghost

MF Ghost is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Shuichi Shigeno, serving as a sequel to his iconic Initial D. The story is set in 202X, where self-driving electric cars have largely replaced internal combustion engines. However, an organization called MFG, founded by Ryosuke Takahashi from Initial D, keeps the spirit of street racing alive with traditional combustion cars. Kanata Rivington, a 19-year-old Japanese-British driver, enters the scene under the pseudonym Kanata Katagiri, driving a Toyota 86.

Felix Film is the animation studio behind the MF Ghost anime adaptation. Tomohito Naka directs the anime, with Kenichi Yamashita handling the series composition and scripts, Naoyuki Onda designing the characters, and Akio Dobashi composing the music. The first season aired from October to December 2023, followed by a second season from October to December 2024. The staff from previous seasons are expected to return for the third installment.

Ahead of the broadcast, lead cast members Yuma Uchida (Kanata Katagiri), Ayane Sakura (Ren Saionji), and director Toshihito Naka have shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming season, further building anticipation among fans. The manga itself concluded its serialization in February 2025.
