Fans of the dark fantasy anime Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku can mark their calendars, as the highly anticipated second season is officially slated to debut on January 11, 2026. The announcement was accompanied by the release of a striking new main visual and character visuals, building excitement for the series’ return. Crunchyroll has confirmed it will stream the new season outside of Asia.

The news was revealed during Jump Festa 2025, an annual event in Tokyo known for major announcements concerning popular manga and anime titles. Studio MAPPA, which animated the first season, is returning to produce the sequel.

Diving into the New Visuals and What They Hint At

The newly unveiled main visual for Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Season 2 features eleven central characters, including protagonist Gabimaru, alongside Sagiri, Yuzuriha, and others. Overseeing them from above is the enigmatic Rien of the Lord Tensen, a prominent antagonist from the manga. This artwork powerfully hints at the intense battles against the Tensen that await the cast on the mysterious island of Shinsenkyo.

In addition to the main visual, individual character visuals were also released for new characters joining the treacherous journey. These include Shugen, Jikka, Kiyomaru, and Isuzu, expanding the roster of formidable individuals converging on the island. These new designs, illustrated by MAPPA, provide a fresh look at the characters who will play crucial roles in the unfolding narrative.

Returning and New Talent Behind the Scenes

The core creative team responsible for the critically acclaimed first season will be returning for Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Season 2, ensuring continuity in its distinctive style and atmosphere. Kaori Makita is once again directing the series, with Akira Kindaichi handling the series script. Akitsugu Hisagi takes on the role of character designer, and Yoshiaki Dewa is confirmed to be composing the music. Twin Engine is responsible for the season’s planning.

The voice cast also sees familiar actors reprising their roles, including Chiaki Kobayashi as Gabimaru and Yumiri Hanamori as Yamada Asaemon Sagiri. Several new voice actors have been announced to bring the fresh faces of Season 2 to life. Ryota Suzuki will voice Yamada Asaemon Shugen, Koji Yusa joins as Yamada Asaemon Jikka, Maaya Uchida as Kiyomaru Yamada Asaemon, and Sayaka Ohara as Isuzu Yamada Asaemon. Mamiko Noto will voice Yui, Gabimaru’s wife.

What to Expect in Season 2: Adapting Key Arcs

The second season is set to adapt significant story arcs from Yuji Kaku’s original manga, specifically the “Lord Tensen” and “Hōrai” arcs. The first season concluded with a major revelation concerning Gabimaru’s motivations and left off with Gabimaru and Sagiri’s party confronting Mu Dan near the entrance of Horai, the supposed location of the Elixir of Life. The teaser trailer for the second season picks up from this point, showing Yamada and others amidst mystical scenery and Gabimaru in pensive solitude.

The overarching narrative continues to follow Gabimaru the Hollow, a ninja sentenced to death, who is offered a chance at a pardon if he can retrieve the Elixir of Life from a perilous, mysterious island. He embarks on this quest with executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, facing off against other dangerous convicts and the island’s demonic inhabitants, the Tensen. The upcoming season promises to delve deeper into the mysteries of Shinsenkyo and the true nature of the Tensen, escalating the life-or-death struggles for Gabimaru and his companions.

Streaming Details and Anticipation

Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Season 2 will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll outside of Asia as it airs. The anime will also be available on Prime Video, Netflix, and Lemino in select regions. The first season garnered a massive reputation, joining other popular shonen titles in what has been dubbed the “Dark Trio” for its blend of action, dark fantasy, and psychological thriller elements. Its return is highly anticipated by fans eager to see the continuation of Gabimaru’s harrowing quest for immortality and his desire to return to his wife.
