The upcoming anime film adaptation of Nowaki Fukamidori’s fantasy novel, “Whoever Steals This Book” (Kono Hon o Nusumu Mono wa), has released a new trailer and announced six more voice cast members ahead of its theatrical debut on December 26, 2025, in Japan. The latest revelations offer a deeper look into the magical adventure awaiting audiences, further building anticipation for the film.

New Trailer Highlights Story and Theme Song

The recently released main trailer provides an extended glimpse into the film’s narrative, showcasing high school student Mifuyu Mikura’s reluctant journey into a world where stolen books trigger an ancient curse, transforming her town according to various stories. The trailer also features the film’s theme song, “Share,” performed by YUKI, formerly of the popular band Judy and Mary. The song is poised to complement the magical and adventurous tone of the film.

Expanding the Ensemble: Six New Voice Actors Join the Cast

In addition to previously announced cast members, the production committee has revealed six new voice actors who will lend their talents to the enchanting world of “Whoever Steals This Book.” These additions further flesh out the diverse cast bringing Fukamidori’s characters to life.

The new cast members and their roles include:

  • Junichiro Kaname voiced by Shigeru Chiba
  • Che Tanbi voiced by Ryota Suzuki
  • Natsume Harada voiced by Reina Ueda
  • Osamu Kikuchida voiced by Tomokazu Seki
  • Shiori Haruta voiced by Rie Takahashi

They join the main cast, which includes Rin Kataoka as Mifuyu Mikura and Sora Tamaki as Mashiro, who are making their voice acting debuts. Other key cast members include Nao Toyama as Hirune Mikura, Junichi Suwabe as Ayumu Mikura, Shizuka Ito as Keiko Yosano, Shimba Tsuchiya as Takafumi Haruta, and Romi Park as Tamaki Mikura.

The Magical Premise of “Whoever Steals This Book”

The story centers on Mifuyu Mikura, a high school student who, despite being surrounded by her great-grandfather’s vast library, Mikura Hall, dislikes reading. Her life takes an unexpected turn when books are stolen from the library, unleashing an ancient curse that transforms her town, Yomunagamachi, into a landscape shaped by various stories. To save her town and restore order, Mifuyu must embark on a quest to catch the thief and unravel the secrets behind the curse and her own family, venturing into the very stories she once despised, with the help of the mysterious girl Mashiro.

Production Details and Release

The anime film is produced by Studio Kagokan, with Daisei Fukuoka (also known as Daiki Fukuoka) directing. Yasuhiro Nakanishi is responsible for the screenplay, and Keiko Kurosawa is handling character design and serving as chief animation director. Michiru Ōshima is composing the music for the film. Kadokawa Animation is distributing the film.

Originally announced for a 2026 release, the film’s premiere date was later updated to December 26, 2025. The source material, Nowaki Fukamidori’s novel, was first published by Kadokawa Shoten in October 2020 and later received a manga adaptation illustrated by Kakeru Sora, serialized from December 2021 to March 2023. Yen Press has licensed both the novel and the manga for English release.
