The beloved Code Geass franchise is gearing up for its 20th anniversary in 2026 with an extensive “Road to CODE GEASS 20th Year” project, revealing a new anime series, a new manga, and a forthcoming television broadcast for Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture. These announcements mark a significant expansion of the Code Geass universe, promising a wealth of new content for fans.

Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture Set for TV Broadcast

The latest anime installment, Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, which premiered as a four-part theatrical release in Japan from May to August 2024, is now confirmed to air as a 12-episode weekly television series starting in July 2026. Prior to its TV debut, the series was also available internationally as a 12-episode streaming series on Disney+ from June 21, 2024.

The story of Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture is set in Kowa Period Year 7, five years after the events of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection. It focuses on the mercenary brothers Rozé and Ash, operating in the Neo-Britannian-occupied Hokkaido. Their mission involves rescuing Princess Sakuya Sumeragi, with the younger brother, Rozé, possessing a Geass power, much like Lelouch himself once did. The voice cast includes Kōhei Amasaki as Rozé, Makoto Furukawa as Ash, and Reina Ueda as Sakuya. The series is directed by Yoshimitsu Ohashi at studio Sunrise, with scripts by Noboru Kimura and original character designs by CLAMP, adapted for animation by Takahiro Kimura and Hidekazu Shimamura.

New Anime Project: Code Geass: Hoshioi no Aspar

Adding to the excitement, a completely new anime series titled Code Geass: Hoshioi no Aspar (literally, The Star-Chasing Aspar) has been announced. This project aims to offer a fresh perspective on the Code Geass world, featuring a new creative team. Kazuya Nomura is set to direct, Mado Nozaki will handle series composition, and Rorua is credited with character designs.

New Manga Work: Code Geass: Pure Almaria

The franchise is further expanding its narrative with a new manga titled Code Geass: Pure Almaria, which debuted on Kadokawa’s Kadocomi website in early 2025. This manga is designed to bridge the narrative gap between Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection and Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture. The plot of Pure Almaria is set after the pivotal incident where Zero and Nunnally are kidnapped by the Kingdom of Zilkhstan. The manga features artwork by Atsushi Soga and a story by Fumiya Nagatsuki, with Sunrise producer Kōjirō Taniguchi overseeing the series composition.

“Road to CODE GEASS 20th Year” Anniversary Events

The “Road to CODE GEASS 20th Year” project encompasses a variety of events and initiatives leading up to the franchise’s two-decade milestone in 2026.

Memorial Event and Announcements

A special memorial event, “Code Geass Project ‘To 20th’,” took place on December 7, 2025, at Belle Salle Shinjuku Grand in Tokyo. The event featured appearances by prominent voice actors, including Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch Lamperouge), Kōhei Amasaki (Rozé), and Makoto Furukawa (Ash). Attendees were treated to a special talk session, a new reading drama, and the announcement of further new information regarding the franchise.

Comprehensive Film Revival Screenings

Starting January 6, 2026, a revival screening event titled “CODE GEASS 20th Anniversary Retrospective: Road to CODE GEASS 20th Year” will be held. This extensive program will sequentially screen all 13 theatrical films from the Code Geass series, including the three Lelouch of the Rebellion compilation films, all five chapters of Akito the Exiled, the Lelouch of the Re;surrection movie, and all four acts of Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture.

Musical Sequel Confirmed

A sequel to the Code Geass: Seido ni Junzuru Kishi (Knight on the Path of Righteousness) stage musical, which premiered in September 2023, is scheduled to open in January 2026. Ryotaro Akazawa and Koji Kominami are confirmed to reprise their roles as Suzaku Kururugi and Lelouch Lamperouge, respectively.

Special Collaboration Manga and Free Streaming

A collaboration manga project between Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing has also been announced. Additionally, the original 50-episode television series, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, will be streamed for free on the official Code Geass YouTube channel, with two new episodes released each weekend.

Anniversary Exhibition and Merchandise Lineup

A large-scale 20th-anniversary exhibition is planned, with dates set for Tokyo in September 2026 and Osaka in November 2026. A wide range of commemorative merchandise will accompany the celebration, including an HG Zi-Apollo model kit, new S.H.Figuarts articulated figures, prize figures of iconic characters like C.C. and Lelouch, and items from the Lookup series.

These myriad projects underscore the franchise’s enduring popularity and its commitment to delivering new narratives and experiences as it approaches its significant 20-year milestone. The expansion, including Pure Almaria and Rozé of the Recapture, is part of a broader 10-year plan for new content initiated with Lelouch of the Re;surrection in 2019.
