The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Miyuki Nakayama’s popular boys-love manga “Shota Oni” has officially been confirmed as a television series, set to air under the new title “Ore to Yu Nii!” (Me and Older Brother Yu!). The announcement was made on Friday via the anime’s official X/Twitter account, accompanied by a commemorative illustration from original creator Miyuki Nakayama.
This news follows an earlier revelation in March, when the sixth compiled volume of the “Shota Oni” manga first announced an anime adaptation was in the works. The shift to a TV anime format and the new title have generated significant buzz among fans of the heartwarming boys-love series.
Delving into “Ore to Yu Nii!”: The Story of Tsubaki and Yu
“Ore to Yu Nii!” centers on the sweet, everyday lives of an elementary school boy named Tsubaki and his kind high school childhood friend, Yu. Tsubaki harbors deep affection for Yu, who has looked after him since they were little. Despite Tsubaki’s earnest feelings, Yu consistently treats him like a younger child. The core of the narrative revolves around Tsubaki’s determined efforts to “grow up quickly” to make Yu happy.
The manga is praised for its relaxing and lovable story, which, while categorized as boys-love, focuses more on the cute expressions of deep affection and emotional connection rather than explicit romantic depictions, making it accessible even to newcomers to the genre.
Manga’s Origins and Acclaim
Miyuki Nakayama, also known for works like Blend S and Spirits & Cat Ears, originally began posting “Shota Oni” on their X (formerly Twitter) and Pixiv accounts in August 2020. The series later began formal serialization on NTT Solmare’s Comic C’moa website in September 2021, under Square Enix’s Gangan BLiss boys-love manga brand. It is also available on other platforms such as Manga UP!, ebookjapan, LINE Manga, and Kindle Store.
The series quickly garnered critical attention, winning the Best Next Generation (Newcomer) award at boys-love website Chil-Chil’s 13th annual BL Awards in 2022. As of March 2025, the manga has released six tankōbon volumes.
What to Expect from the TV Anime Adaptation
While specific details regarding the broadcast date, animation studio, staff, and cast for “Ore to Yu Nii!” are yet to be fully revealed, the confirmation of a TV anime format suggests a comprehensive adaptation of the beloved manga. Fans are eagerly awaiting further announcements to see how Tsubaki and Yu’s endearing relationship will be brought to life on screen. The shift from a general anime adaptation announcement to a confirmed TV series with a new title indicates a significant step forward in the production and distribution of the series.
