Recapping the First Season’s Success and Premise
The first season of Oblivion Battery premiered in April 2024 and captivated audiences over 12 episodes, which aired until July 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the series, making it accessible to a global audience.
The anime, based on Eko Mikawa’s high school baseball manga serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ since April 2018, tells the compelling story of a “monstrous battery duo.” Haruka Kiyomine, an incredibly talented pitcher, and Kei Kaname, a shrewd catcher, were once an unstoppable force in middle school baseball, crushing the dreams of many rivals. However, fate takes an unexpected turn when Kei is diagnosed with amnesia, losing all memories of his baseball prowess.
Against all odds, the duo reunites at the no-name Tokyo Municipal Kotesashi High School, a school not known for its baseball program. There, they encounter former rivals who had given up on baseball after their encounters with Kiyomine and Kaname. The series then follows their journey as they attempt to establish a new baseball club, reignite their passion for the sport, and navigate Kei’s memory loss, all while bringing former opponents back into the game.
With Studio MAPPA’s continued involvement and the original cast returning, the second season is poised to deliver more thrilling baseball action, heartwarming character development, and comedic hijinks that fans have come to love.
