Renowned voice actors Junichi Suwabe and Reina Ueda are set to lend their talents to the upcoming “Black Torch” TV anime, with the announcement made during the Jump Festa 2026 stage event. Suwabe will portray the character Ryosuke Shiba, while Ueda will voice Hana Usami. Their addition bolsters an already impressive cast for the highly anticipated supernatural action series, which is slated to premiere in July 2026.
New Voices for Key Bureau of Espionage Characters
Junichi Suwabe, known for iconic roles such as Ryomen Sukuna in “JUJUTSU KAISEN,” will take on the role of Ryosuke Shiba. Reina Ueda, celebrated for her work as Reze in “Chainsaw Man,” will voice Hana Usami. Both characters are associated with the Bureau of Espionage, an organization central to the anime’s narrative, tasked with combating powerful spirits known as mononoke. Manga creator Tsuyoshi Takaki, the original author of “Black Torch,” even released a special illustration commemorating the newly announced cast members.
The World of Black Torch: Shinobi, Mononoke, and Secret Battles
“Black Torch” is an anime adaptation of Tsuyoshi Takaki’s popular manga, which ran from December 2016 to July 2018 in Jump Square and Shonen Jump+. The story introduces Jiro Azuma, a descendant of a long line of shinobi with the unique ability to communicate with animals. His compassionate nature towards creatures leads him into a perilous encounter when he rescues an injured black cat named Rago. This seemingly ordinary feline turns out to be an immortal mononoke, or evil spirit, known as the Black Star of Doom.
In a dramatic turn of events, Jiro is killed while defending Rago from other mononoke, but Rago fuses with him to grant him a second chance at life and immense power. This forced fusion creates a dangerous yet powerful partnership, dragging Jiro into humanity’s hidden war against menacing spirits. The duo subsequently joins the Bureau of Espionage, an undercover agency dedicated to seeking and destroying rogue mononoke, while simultaneously learning to control their combined power.
Previously Announced Cast and Production Team
The newly announced voice actors join a talented main cast that includes Ryota Suzuki as the protagonist Jiro Azuma, Yoji Ueda as the mononoke Rago, Sayaka Senbongi as Ichika Kishimojin, and Junya Enoki as Reiji Kirihara.
The “Black Torch” anime is being produced by 100studio. Kei Umabiki is directing the series, with Gigaemon Ichikawa handling the series composition and script. Go Suzuki is responsible for character designs, and the music is being composed by Yutaka Yamada. Viz Media, which publishes the English version of the original manga, is licensing the anime.
With its blend of supernatural action, shinobi lore, and a compelling cast of characters brought to life by a stellar voice cast, “Black Torch” is poised to be a significant addition to the anime landscape in 2026.
