A new Sgt. Frog television anime series, titled Kerokero Gunsō ☆, is set to premiere in Fall 2026, featuring a completely new cast. The announcement was made on Monday by the franchise’s staff, who also revealed a teaser visual for the upcoming series. This new TV anime will offer a fresh take on the beloved alien invasion comedy.
A Fresh Invasion: New TV Anime Details
The upcoming Kerokero Gunsō ☆ series marks a significant return for the franchise to television, bringing with it a brand-new voice cast. While specific cast members are yet to be announced, this change indicates a new direction for the anime adaptation of Mine Yoshizaki’s popular manga. The staff clarified that the original cast members will, however, reprise their roles in a separate 20th-anniversary anime film project for the Sgt. Frog franchise, slated to open in Summer 2026.
The new TV anime is announced to begin a brand-new story from its very origins, focusing on Keroro’s fateful meeting with Fuyuki and the others. This suggests a potential reboot or a fresh narrative starting point for both new and long-time fans.
The Broader “Sgt. Frog” 20th Anniversary Projects
The new TV anime is part of a larger celebration for the Sgt. Frog franchise, which includes multiple projects commemorating the original anime’s 20th anniversary.
The 20th Anniversary Anime Film
Before the new TV series, fans can look forward to the previously announced 20th-anniversary anime film, titled Gekijōban ☆ Keroro Gunsō Fukkatsu Shite Sokkō Chikyū Metsubō no Kiki de Arimasu! (Sgt. Frog the Movie: The Earth is in Mortal Peril as Soon as We Come Back!). This film is scheduled for release in Summer 2026. Yūichi Fukuda, known for his work on live-action Gintama, is serving as the supervising director and scriptwriter for the film. Fumitoshi Oizaki, who was a character designer for the original Sgt. Frog anime, is directing the film at Bandai Namco Pictures, with Satoshi Koike as the character designer.
Crucially, the original voice cast, including Kumiko Watanabe as Sergeant Keroro, Etsuko Kozakura as Private Second Class Tamama, Jouji Nakata as Corporal Giroro, Takehito Koyasu as Sergeant Major Kururu, and Takeshi Kusao as Lance Corporal Dororo, will be returning for this film. Pop artist ano and comedian Soshina are performing a new rendition of the series’ famous “Kero! to March,” titled “Mata Kaettekita Kero! to March” for the film.
“Sgt. Frog” Manga and Previous Anime History
Mine Yoshizaki’s Sgt. Frog (known in Japan as Keroro Gunsō) manga series first launched in Monthly Shōnen Ace in April 1999. The comedic science-fiction story follows a platoon of frog-like alien invaders, led by Sergeant Keroro, whose attempts to conquer Earth are repeatedly thwarted as Keroro finds himself living with a human family and doing their chores.
The manga was first adapted into a highly popular television anime series by Sunrise, which ran for 358 episodes from April 2004 to April 2011. Crunchyroll currently streams the earlier television anime, describing the plot as Keroro being abandoned on Earth and forced to live with humans after his invasion mission is aborted. A second 23-episode flash anime series titled Keroro also aired from March to September 2014.
The Sgt. Frog franchise has also inspired multiple anime movies and various other media tie-ins over its 25-year history since the manga’s debut. With a new TV anime, a movie, and even a musical (Pekopon Shinryaku Musical “Keroro Gunso” opening in September 2026), 2026 is shaping up to be a monumental year for Sgt. Frog fans.
