Fans of Shinobu Kaitani’s critically acclaimed psychological thriller, Liar Game, have cause for excitement as a new short serialization titled Liar Game: The Last Game has been announced. The new manga will begin in the next issue of Shueisha’s Grand Jump Mucha magazine on February 25, 2026, and will feature a color opening page. This revival comes as part of a broader resurgence for the franchise, coinciding with an upcoming television anime adaptation slated for April 2026.

Nao Kanzaki Faces a New Game

Liar Game: The Last Game is set to pick up after the conclusion of the original manga series, with the protagonist Nao Kanzaki once again thrust into a perilous “game”. The original Liar Game manga, which ran from 2005 to January 2015 in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine, captivated readers with its high-stakes psychological battles, deception, and betrayal. Naive and honest, Nao Kanzaki consistently found herself in challenging situations within the Liar Game Tournament, often turning to the brilliant former con artist Shinichi Akiyama for his unmatched intellect to navigate the treacherous world where trust could be fatal.

A Revitalized Franchise: Anime Adaptation on the Horizon

The announcement of the new manga serialization arrives alongside significant news of a television anime adaptation for Liar Game, scheduled to premiere in April 2026. Anime distributor REMOW introduced the series with a captivating synopsis: “A Mysterious Invitation. One Hundred Million Yen. The Game Begins. College student Nao Kanzaki suddenly receives a strange letter and a suitcase containing 100 million yen. She’s been chosen to participate in the LIAR GAME —a high-stakes psychological battle where lies, deception, and betrayal reign supreme. Naïve and painfully honest, Nao quickly finds herself cornered. To survive, she turns to Shinichi Akiyama, a brilliant former con artist with unmatched intellect”.

Key Staff and Cast for the Anime

The anime adaptation is being produced by the renowned studio Madhouse, known for its work on series like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Yuzo Sato serves as the chief director, with Asami Kawano directing the series. Tatsuhiko Urahata is handling the series scripts, and Kei Tsuchiya is responsible for character designs. The main voice cast includes Saya Hitomi as Nao Kanzaki and Takeo Otsuka as Shinichi Akiyama. Composer Yugo Kanno is creating the music, aiming to build a new world of Liar Game through sound, distinct from previous live-action adaptations.

The Legacy of Liar Game

The Liar Game franchise has a rich history of adaptations across various media. Before this new manga and anime, the original manga inspired two live-action television series (in 2007 and 2009), two live-action films (Liar Game: The Final Stage in 2010 and Liar Game: Reborn in 2012), and two live-action online series. A South Korean television series adaptation also aired in 2014. Most recently, a stage play adaptation premiered in 2023.

Shinobu Kaitani’s ability to craft intricate psychological scenarios and compelling characters has kept the Liar Game series popular for two decades. Fans eagerly anticipate the return of Nao Kanzaki and Shinichi Akiyama as they delve into new deceptions and strategies in both the manga and the upcoming anime adaptation.
