The Story of Vengeance and Grimoires
“A Livid Lady’s Guide to Getting Even” is based on the popular light novel series written by Metabo Hagure and illustrated by Masami, which began as a web novel in October 2020. A manga adaptation by Imo Ōno has also been running since May 2022. Both the light novel and manga are published in English by J-Novel Club.
The narrative follows Elizabeth Leiston, the daughter of a powerful prime minister and a lady groomed to be the future queen of the Kingdom of Haldoria. Her life takes a drastic turn when her fiancé, the crown prince, publicly annuls their engagement and imprisons her, spreading malicious rumors. Fueled by betrayal and anger, Elizabeth escapes, reinvents herself as Ellie Leis, and seeks asylum in the neighboring Yutear Empire.
Armed with her intellect and the power of seven formidable magic grimoires, Elizabeth embarks on a quest for revenge against those who wronged her and the kingdom that cast her aside. The series promises a high-stakes revenge fantasy that combines strategic thinking, powerful magic, and elegance as Elizabeth builds a network of influence, wealth, and military might to dismantle her former homeland.
The anime adaptation was initially announced on August 18, 2025, with further details regarding staff and release window eagerly awaited by fans. The reveal of the July 2026 premiere and key staff through a teaser video has now set the stage for this compelling story to unfold on screen.
