The manga adaptation of Midori Yūma and Laruha’s popular Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits (Kakuriyo Yadomeshi) light novel series, drawn by Tsugaru Toba, is set to publish its final chapter in Kodansha’s Monthly Shōnen Sirius magazine. The conclusion will appear in the magazine’s February issue, which is slated for release on January 26, 2026. Kodansha will then ship the 11th and final compiled book volume on February 27, 2026.
The Journey of Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits
The Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits series began as a light novel written by Midori Yūma and illustrated by Laruha. Fujimi Shobo started publishing the light novel series in April 2015, concluding with twelve volumes by March 2022, and a special epilogue Novel 13 released in 2025.
The story centers on Aoi Tsubaki, a college student who possesses the inherited ability to see ayakashi (spirits). After her grandfather’s death, Aoi is unexpectedly whisked away to the Hidden Realm, the world of ayakashi, by an ogre named Odanna, the master of the Tenjin-ya inn. She learns that her grandfather owed a substantial debt to Odanna and, as compensation, Aoi is expected to marry him. Refusing this proposition, Aoi instead opts to work at the Tenjin-ya to pay off her grandfather’s debt through her exceptional cooking skills.
Multiple Manga Adaptations
The Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits light novels have inspired more than one manga adaptation. The first manga adaptation, with art by Waco Ioka (also credited as Wako Ioka), began serialization in Enterbrain’s B’s Log Comic magazine in April 2016. Viz Media has licensed and released this adaptation in English.
Tsugaru Toba’s adaptation, which is now concluding, launched in Kodansha’s Monthly Shōnen Sirius magazine in January 2023. This particular adaptation has gained popularity, with Kodansha having shipped its 10th compiled book volume as of October 2025.
Anime Series and International Reach
The beloved supernatural gourmet series also received an anime television series adaptation. The first season, produced by Gonzo, aired from April to September 2018. Crunchyroll streamed the series internationally under the title Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits-, and Funimation provided an English dub and home video release.
A second season of the anime, produced by Gonzo and Makaria, premiered on October 1, 2025, and aired until December 18, 2025. Crunchyroll is also streaming the second season, including an English dub, across various regions.
The enduring popularity of Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits across light novels, multiple manga adaptations, and two anime seasons highlights its broad appeal and the engaging narrative of Aoi’s culinary journey in the Hidden Realm. While Tsugaru Toba’s manga adaptation concludes, the overarching story remains accessible through its other formats.
