Two prominent anime films, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, have experienced shifts in their Japanese box office rankings. Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc has dropped to the eighth position in its 15th weekend, while Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has moved to tenth place in its 24th weekend, indicating a natural decline for both long-running features.
Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Sustains Strong Run Despite Drop
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, a direct sequel to the first season of the popular anime television series, continues its impressive theatrical run. Released in Japan on September 19, 2025, the film debuted at the number one spot and held that position for seven consecutive weekends. Even in its 15th weekend (December 26-28), it managed to stay within the top ten, landing at eighth place after dropping four positions from the previous weekend.
As of December 30, 2025, Reze Arc has surpassed a cumulative domestic gross of 10 billion yen (approximately US$63.94 million) from 6.55 million admissions in Japan. This makes it the 51st highest-grossing film of all time in Japan. Globally, the film had already grossed over $174.7 million as of December 2025, making it one of the highest-grossing Japanese films ever and receiving positive critical reviews. The film also notably topped the U.S. opening weekend in 3,003 North American theaters, earning $18 million.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Continues Extended Theatrical Presence
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, which premiered in Japan on July 18, 2025, has also seen a gradual descent in its box office standing. In its 24th weekend, the film dropped two positions to secure the tenth spot in the Japanese box office rankings. Despite this recent drop, Infinity Castle has had a phenomenal run, earning 38.71 billion yen (US$248 million) from its 163-day run in Japan as of December 30, 2025.
The film, which adapts the Infinity Castle arc of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga, shattered opening records in Japan, achieving the biggest opening weekend of all time in Japanese cinema with ¥5.52 billion (US$37.42 million) from 3.84 million admissions. It held the number one spot for nine consecutive weeks and remained in the Top 3 for 15 weeks. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle also made history internationally, becoming the first Japanese production to surpass ¥1 trillion worldwide (approximately $6.7 billion) and achieved significant success in the U.S., crossing the $100 million milestone. As of December 2025, it was recognized as one of the top three animated movies worldwide for the year.
The Broader Anime Film Landscape
The performances of both Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle highlight the continued strength of anime films in the global box office. While Demon Slayer has consistently demonstrated its massive commercial appeal, Chainsaw Man has proven to be a significant player, securing critical acclaim and strong box office numbers. The anime film industry collectively broke the $1 billion mark globally for the first time in a single calendar year in 2025, led by Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle with over $790.5 million and Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc with over $175 million. This signals a robust market for anime features, even as individual films naturally experience declines after their initial strong performances.
