Norio Sakurai’s popular romantic comedy manga series, The Dangers in My Heart (Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu), is officially set to conclude with its 14th compiled book volume. The announcement came from the 13th volume of the manga, released on Thursday, January 8, 2026, signaling the end of the beloved story.
A Journey from Weekly Serialization to Global Acclaim
The Dangers in My Heart began its serialization in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine in March 2018. Shortly after its debut, in April 2018, it transitioned to the Champion Cross manga website. Following a merger of Champion Cross with Champion Tap! in July 2018, the manga found its home on the newly formed Manga Cross website, which was later re-launched as Champion Cross in April 2024. The series has garnered significant popularity, achieving recognition such as being ranked in the men’s section of “Kono Manga ga Sugoi!” for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021, and winning first place in the web manga category of the Next Manga Awards 2020.
The Story of Kyotaro Ichikawa and Anna Yamada
The manga centers on Kyotaro Ichikawa, an introverted middle school student who initially harbors dark fantasies about his classmates, particularly the class idol, Anna Yamada. However, as he observes Anna and they begin to interact, Kyotaro discovers her quirky personality, and their relationship gradually evolves from an unusual acquaintance to a budding romance. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the manga for English publication and describes the story as a “quirky courtship” where Ichikawa learns that Anna is “a bit odd herself.”
Anime Adaptation and Spin-offs
The popularity of The Dangers in My Heart extended to an anime television series adaptation produced by Shin-Ei Animation. The first season aired from April to June 2023, with a second season following from January to March 2024. HIDIVE streamed the anime as it aired in Japan.
Beyond the main manga, the franchise has also seen a light novel adaptation written by Kota Nozomi with illustrations by Sakurai and sune, released in September 2024. Furthermore, a spin-off manga titled The Dangers in My Heart: Love Comedy ga Hajimaranai (A Romantic Comedy Will Not Start), focusing on Kyotaro Ichikawa’s older sister Kana, began serialization in July 2025.
As fans anticipate the release of the 14th and final volume, it marks the conclusion of a compelling romantic comedy that has captured the hearts of many readers and viewers worldwide.
