The dystopian sci-fi action manga, A-DO, by Jaku Amano, is set to conclude with its 12th compiled volume, scheduled for release in early 2026. The announcement was made on July 18 with the release of the manga’s 11th volume. The series officially entered its “final series” in June 2025.
The Story of A-DO: A Dystopian Japan
A-DO is set in a near-future Japan that has become a volatile mixture of cultures and people due to a wave of immigration. This new social landscape is frequently disrupted by protests from xenophobic extremists who are unhappy with the current status quo.
Plot Introduction
The narrative centers around Riko, a spirited, job-hopping young woman, who finds herself caught in the midst of one such protest. While driving her scooter, she witnesses a boy, Eito, on the verge of being hit by a truck and manages to push him out of harm’s way. This act of heroism quickly pulls Riko into a complex and dangerous situation.
The Mystery of Eito
Shortly after their initial encounter, as Riko and Eito are sharing a meal, Eito becomes the target of an army sniper. In a startling turn of events, plant-like tendrils emerge from Eito’s arm, stopping the bullet in mid-flight. This supernatural ability immediately raises questions about Eito’s true identity and why the military is pursuing him. The series then follows Riko and Eito as they navigate this perilous world, seeking answers while evading military assassins.
