The upcoming anime adaptation of Kuzushiro’s popular manga, “Egao no Taenai Shokuba Desu” (A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace), has revealed two new cast members and solidified its premiere date for October 6. Happinet made the announcement, also unveiling a second key visual for the highly anticipated series.
New Voices Join the “Weirdly Wonderful Workplace”
Adding to the already announced ensemble, two prominent voice actresses will lend their talents to key characters. Saori Hayami, known for her roles in various anime, will voice Yuzuki Hazama, Futami’s best friend since their school days. Joining her is Sumire Uesaka, who will portray Nagomi Hayachine, a colleague of protagonist Nana Futami during her time as an assistant.
These new additions further expand the cast, which includes Yūko Natsuyoshi as Nana Futami, Sora Amamiya as Kaede Satō, Miku Itō as Mizuki Hazama, Yū Kobayashi as Arisa Nashida, Eriko Matsui as Tōko Kakunodate, and Miharu Hanai as Nekonote. Iori Saeki, Mamiko Noto, and Kikuko Inoue were also previously announced in August to voice Shiori Asakura, Ren Takizawa, and Wakako Tatsunami, respectively.
Dive into a Mangaka’s Daily Delusions this October
The “working girls comedy” anime is set to officially debut on October 6. Viewers in Japan can catch the premiere on the AT-X channel at 9:30 p.m. JST, followed by Tokyo MX at 10:00 p.m. JST, and BS Asahi at 11:24 p.m. JST. Iwate Menkoi TV will also air the anime on October 12.
The series centers on Nana Futami, a rookie shōjo manga artist navigating the often-stressful world of manga creation. Despite occasional bouts of intense delusions—which she attributes to an occupational hazard—Nana strives to keep smiling and working with the support of her cool editor, Kaede Satō, and her reliable assistant, Mizuki Hazama. Her journey involves battling looming deadlines, creative blocks, stomachaches, and late-night snacking, all while striving to publish her dream shogi manga, “Subaru e.”
Production Team and Manga Origins
Directing “A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace” is Kaoru Suzuki, known for their work on DIVE!! and My Roommate is a Cat, at Studio Voil. Mio Inoue ( My Awkward Senpai, Slow Start) is overseeing the series scripts, while Kana Miyai is responsible for character designs. The musical score is being composed by Kei Haneoka and Hironori Doi.
The anime is based on Kuzushiro’s manga, “Egao no Taenai Shokuba Desu,” which began as a one-shot in Kodansha’s Kiss josei manga magazine in February 2019. It later started serialization on Kodansha’s Comic Days website in May 2019. The manga continues to be serialized, with its 13th volume set to release on September 19, 2025. The opening theme song, “Zettai Shōsan!”, is performed by HoneyWorks featuring HaKoniwalily, and the ending theme song, “Thankful,” is performed by Sizuk.
